Alesandrini, Kathryn Lutz – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1981
This study investigated the effects of learner-generated pictures on science learning relative to both a verbal strategy and a control condition, and to determine the role of individual differences. Results revealed weak effects favoring a drawing strategy for males and females, and a holistic strategy for females only. (Author/GK)

Webb, G. P.; Jakobson, M. E. – Journal of Biological Education, 1980
Four means of altering fat levels in laboratory mice, contrasting invasive injection techniques with non-invasive dietary and behavioral means, are described. Relates these investigations concerning obesity to the practicality of using animal models as an approach in searching for physiological knowledge about human beings. (CS)

Inglis, James; Lawson, J. S. – Science, 1981
A sexual dimorphism in the functional asymmetry of the damaged human brain is reflected in a test-specific laterality effect in male patients, explaining some contradictions concerning the effects of unilateral brain damage on intelligence in studies in which the influence of sex was overlooked. (Author/SK)

James, Helen J.; Nelson, Samuel L. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1981
A learning cycle involves the active participation of students in exploration, invention, and application phases. Describes one such learning cycle dealing with classification of matter and designed to provide students with an understanding of the terms: atom, molecule, element, compound, solution, and heterogeneous matter. (Author/JN)

Herrmann, F.; Schmalzle, P. – American Journal of Physics, 1981
Explains that the result of collision experiments with a linear arrangement of several identical elastic balls cannot be predicted solely from the conservation laws and energy and momentum. Indicates that the system of balls must be capable of dispersion-free energy propagation. (Author/JN)
