Teacher certification in New York State does not guarantee that secondary social studies teachers know their subject content. With the Regents' approved changes in the secondary social studies curriculum it is appropriate to ask if certification requirements need to be modified to reflect these changes. (RM)

State estimates show Average Daily Membership (ADM) will decline in the period 1982-83 to 1987-88; ADM will also fall substantially in the late 1980s and early l990s in junior and senior high schools.
