Hannafin, Michael J. – Educational Communication and Technology: A Journal of Theory, Research, and Development, 1983
Examines the effect that systematic loading of story presentations with criterion information has on recall of abstract and concrete prose. Results indicate oral plus picture presentations were most effective. Also, loading additional detail into visual presentations resulted in greater recall and provided greater supplementary effect to oral…

Peer reviewedDean, Raymond S.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1983
In experiment one, subjects learned a word list in blocked or random forms of auditory/visual change. In experiment two, high- and low-conceptual rigid subjects read passages in shift conditions or nonshift, exclusively in auditory or visual modes. A shift in modality provided a powerful release from proactive interference. (Author/CM)

Peer reviewedEilers, Rebecca E.; And Others – Journal of Child Language, 1982
Discusses the possibility that early linguistic experience affects infant speech perception and that this effect may be of practical consequence in later language learning. (EKN)

Peer reviewedSchwartz, Richard G.; Leonard, Laurence B. – Journal of Child Language, 1982

Hofstetter, Fred T. – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1981
Describes how the University of Delaware's Grade Units for Interactive Dictation (GUIDO) system is used to improve instructional delivery and educational research in aural skills development. Instruction consists of musical dictation exercises and there are five programs available in two modes--drill-and-practice and heuristic (discovery).…

Peer reviewedSalamy, A. – Child Development, 1981
Determines the frequency distribution of Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential variables (BAEP) for premature babies at different stages of development--normal newborns, infants, young children, and adults. The author concludes that the assumption of normality underlying most "standard" statistical analyses can be met for many BAEP…

Peer reviewedLass, Norman J.; And Others – Journal of Phonetics, 1980
Reports a study which shows that subjects can make discriminative judgments of a speaker's height and weight from his tape recorded speech. This ability is not altered by the filtering of the speech signal. (PMJ)

Peer reviewedFranklin, Elda; Franklin, A. David – Music Educators Journal, 1978
The authors review current brain hemisphere laterality research in relation to music education, concluding that evidence is still insufficient to determine the functions of the left brain and right brain in music perception. They also consider the effects of training on the cerebral processing of music stimuli. (SJL)

Peer reviewedKrueger, Lester E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1979
A uniprocessor, unidimensional model, based on Krueger's noisy-operator theory, was fitted satisfactorily to data from four published studies of tone comparison. The model predicts faster response time on different judgments because of heterogeneity of difference. (Author/CP)
