A family practice center, independently controlled and staffed, but located within a major university medical center, is proposed. Such a location allows for patient care and education as well as for resident training. Other advantages include access to the university center's services. Possible disadvantages are also discussed. The need to expand graduate programs in veterinary medical education is described and suggestions are offered for developing curricula. It is noted that the comparative training in species approach of veterinary schools provides a basis for launching expanded graduate programs. (LBH)

A competency-based curriculum was designed by faculty members from the College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Education at the University of Georgia.
