A study with 21 internal medicine residents at 1 teaching hospital found that the students perceived an even balance between the service and education functions of their night-call activities. Selection of family practice residencies in 1981-89 was compared for graduates of State University of New York campuses and all United States medical schools. General practice medical residents (n=18) evaluated their performance in videotaped consultations at the beginning and end of a three-month residency. Results indicate self-awareness was increased. The Medical College of Georgia's third-year medicine clerkship includes a one-month ambulatory care block rotation in internal medicine, medicine, and dermatology. Summarizes efforts by state governments to regulate managed care and examines the various actions that states have initiated to credential managed care plans that desire to provide care for Medicaid beneficiaries. In the long run, organizations other than state regulatory agencies may be better equipped to regulate managed care. (SLD)
