The introduction of the specialties and their developing residency programs in veterinary medicine have caused problems for veterinary medical colleges. Among the problems are the tendency to pattern programs after their human medical counterparts, funding problems, program length and curriculum, and faculty and equipment requirements. (JMD)

Small groups of medical students are asked to enact a situation in which family members visit their general practitioner with a problem regarding one of the children, and the diffusion of this problem within the family is traced during the course of the simulation. Undergraduate admission test scores were traced for Ph.D. recipients in eight arts and science disciplines and compared to the scores of those who earned degrees in business, law, and medicine. A national survey of family medicine programs and residency training in geriatrics found almost half using home care services as teaching sites. In the program design preferred by residents, the resident followed the patient long-term and discussed management with a multidisciplinary team. An alternative combined rotation is discussed.
