Explores whether paid leave leads to longer or shorter interruptions of work. Results, based on a national survey, indicate that women with access to paid leave worked later into pregnancy, were less likely to work during the birth month, and started work sooner once the infant reached two months of age. Usable responses from 285 nursing faculty at 35 of 44 schools with doctoral programs showed overall satisfaction with work, coworkers, and supervision. Tenured faculty at large universities with collective bargaining are more satisfied with pay. Faculty in undergraduate programs have less satisfaction. (SK)
