Peer reviewedIles, Kim; Wilson, Lester J. – Mathematics Teacher, 1977
This article presents a geometric construction in which the quadratic, arithmetic, geometric, and harmonic means are drawn together in a single diagram. (DT)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Geometric Concepts, Instruction, Mathematics Education
Peer reviewedMetz, Jim – Mathematics Teacher, 1977
An algebra problem is analyzed, and several variations are suggested for further student inquiry. Practical applications of the problem are discussed. (DT)
Descriptors: Algebra, Instruction, Mathematical Applications, Mathematics Education
Peer reviewedTurner, Barbara – Mathematics Teacher, 1977
Geometric models are used to study numerical relationships in summation formulas. (DT)
Descriptors: Algebra, Geometric Concepts, Instruction, Mathematical Models
Peer reviewedReed, Cecil B.; Bidwell, James K. – School Science and Mathematics, 1976
This is the second part of the bibliography published in the November 1976 issue, listing articles concerned with mathematics beyond that usually taught at the junior high level. Articles are listed concerning mathematical books, periodicals, mathematical societies, and mathematicians of ancient times through the 20th century; a miscellaneous…

Peer reviewedLeder, Gilah – Australian Mathematics Teacher, 1976
Differences in mathematics performance between boys and girls were investigated. Tests with content appropriate for boys or for girls were given randomly to 163 boys and 147 girls from ten high schools. Differences in performance favored the boys. Students' performance tended to be better on questions with sex-appropriate contextual settings. (DT)

Peer reviewedBolster, L. Carey – Mathematics Teacher, 1973
worksheets are presented in which students connect the midpoints of the sides of triangles and quadrilaterals and record measurement data of segment lengths to derive relationships. (JP)

Anderson, Johnston A. – Mathematics Teaching, 1973
The distance between two points in the plane defined as the distance traveled from one point to the other by moving parallel to the coordinate axis is called the Manhattan metric. Resulting geometric figures based on this measure are discussed. (JP)

Peer reviewedFinucan, H. M. – Australian Mathematics Teacher, 1973
The use of matrix multiplication in the theory of Markov chains is demonstrated without directly discussing any probability theory. The technique that is developed is applied to ratio and mixture problems that are in changing states. (JP)
