Schnikpe, Deborah L.; Scrams, David J. – 1999
The unobtrusive recording of item response times is one of the many advantages offered by computerized test administration. This report is a broad review of psychometric literature on response times. The review is not exhaustive, but does provide a sample of work that has been done. The review is organized into seven sections: (1) scoring models;…

Schnipke, Deborah L.; Reese, Lynda M. – 1999
Two-stage and multistage test designs provide a way of roughly adapting item difficulty to test taker ability. This study incorporated testlets (bundles of items) into two-stage and multistage designs, and compared the precision of the ability estimates derived from these designs with those derived from a standard computerized adaptive test (CAT)…

Race, Kathryn E. H. – 1999
The importance of reassessing the psychometric properties of an existing scale is highlighted. The construct validity of a driver attitude scale was not confirmed by factor analysis and the original scale scores were shown to have poor to moderate internal reliability. On the basis of a re-analysis of data from 1,059 repeat traffic offenders, 39…

Goldberger, Arthur S. – Psychometrika, 1971
Several themes which are common to both econometrics and psychometrics are surveyed. The themes are illustrated by reference to permanent income hypotheses, simultaneous equation models, adaptive expectations and partial adjustment schemes, and by reference to test score theory, factor analysis, and time-series models. Thissen, David; Wainer, Howard – Psychometrika, 1982
The mathematics required to calculate the asymptotic standard errors of the parameters of three commonly used logistic item response models is described and used to generate values for common situations. Difficulties in using maximum likelihood estimation with the three parameter model are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Labeck, Louis J.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Examines the validity of a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory code type interpretive program. Results showed the system was highly rated by three independent experienced clinicians. The program can be used in validating other automated test interpretation systems. Feedback by expert judges can be used to improve such systems. (Author/JAC)

Lam, Tony C. M.; Klockars, Alan J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1982
Ratings given to questionnaire items on four types of rating scales were compared. This study shows that the differences between scales are contingent upon the particular anchors used for the intermediate options. The results suggest that the mean score is predictably influenced by changes in the intermediate anchors. (Author/PN)
