Peer reviewedBloxom, Bruce – Psychometrika, 1972
Special cases of the factor analysis model are developed for four selection situations. Methods are suggested whereby parameters in each case can be estimated using a maximum likelihood procedure recently developed by Joreskog. (Author)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Factor Analysis, Hypothesis Testing, Mathematical Applications
Peer reviewedMessick, Samuel J. – Psychometrika, 1972
The aims of this paper are to affirm the importance of developing sequential models of psychological process-particularly of such complex psychological phenomena of prime concern to theory and application as learning, problem solving, and creativity-and to argue that factor analysis has delineated component processes for these sequential models.…

Peer reviewedSlak, Stefan – Revista Latinoamericana de Psicologia, 1972
Research supported by the Committee on Scholarly Activities of the University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio. (DS)
Descriptors: Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, Language Research, Memory
Peer reviewedZytowski, Donald G.; Betz, Ellen L. – Counseling Psychologist, 1972
A review of several leading counseling journals and some books reporting major research projects was performed, covering material from 1961 to the present. Instruments were sorted as follows: (1) Counselor characteristics measurements, and (2) Counseling relationship and effectiveness measurements. Also examined were areas of reliability and…

Peer reviewedKaufman, Alan S. – Child Development, 1971
Aim of the study is to assess empirically the interrelationships among some of Piaget's and Gesell's behavioral tasks. (Author)

Peer reviewedThauberger, Patrick C.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1982
Research in existentialism and ontology has given rise to several psychometric instruments. Used both exploratory and confirmatory principal-factor analyses to study relationships among 16 existential scales. Exploratory factor analysis provided some support of the theory that the avoidance of existential confrontation is a central function of…

Peer reviewedRussell, Stephen F.; Ludenia, Krista – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Examined the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC) Scales with alcoholic patients (N=100). The three MHLC Scales appear to measure largely independent dimensions of locus of control beliefs specifically related to health. Factor analyses suggest that the instrument is factorily valid. (Author/JAC)

Peer reviewedVance, Booney; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1983
Investigated the relationship between the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) and the McCarthy Screening Test (MST) with a sample of 39 children whose mean age was 62.3 months. All of the subtests of the MST, excluding Numerical Memory and Leg Coordination, correlated positively and significantly with the PPVT-R. (Author)

Peer reviewedMadden, Joseph M. – Personnel Psychology, 1981
Discusses an indirect method of attitude measurement, policy-capturing, that can be applied on an individual basis. In three experiments this method detected prejudicial attitudes toward females not detected with traditional methods. Can be used as a self-improvement diagnostic tool for developing awareness of behavior influences. (JAC)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Counseling Techniques, Employee Attitudes, Evaluation Methods
Peer reviewedZilberg, Nathan J.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Presents necessary cross-validational evidence on the Impact of Event Scale, a measure introduced to provide researchers with a psychometrically sound self-report instrument assessing the essential characteristics associated with stress disorders. The data were consistent with a clinically derived theoretical model of the pattern of response to…
Descriptors: Adults, Personality Measures, Psychometrics, Rating Scales
Peer reviewedEidelson, Roy J.; Epstein, Norman – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Describes development and validation of an inventory measuring five dysfunctional relationship beliefs. This Relationship Belief Inventory (RBI) was administered to couples along with measures of marital functioning and a questionnaire assessing irrational beliefs about self. Results demonstrated internal consistency, convergent validity, and…

Peer reviewedVeiel, H.; Coles, E. M. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Definitions of projective tests are critiqued. A distinction is made between projective tests and projective techniques. The unique feature of the latter is its scoring process: response categories are intensionally defined and comprise infinite sets of responses. A continuity from psychometric to projective tests is argued. Statistical…

Peer reviewedColberg, Magda; And Others – Intelligence, 1982
An historical overview of inductive logic is presented, including the logic of enumerative induction in its rule-derivative and event-predictive forms. An experimental test model of event-predictive induction in the linguistic medium is discussed along with its theoretical significance for future psychometric investigations. (Author/CM)
