Peer reviewedO'Hare, Thomas – Journal of Primary Prevention, 2001
In the current study of 361 sexually active undergraduates cited for their first time for university substance abuse violations, confirmatory factor analysis was employed to validate the Risky Sex Scale. A three factor solution appears to fit the data significantly, and three subscales demonstrate good to excellent reliability and vary…

Peer reviewedBachman, Lyle F. – Annual Review of Applied Linguistics, 1989
Applied linguistics and psychometrics have influenced language testing, providing additional tools for investigating factors affecting language test performance and assuring measurement reliability. An examination is presented of language testing, including the theoretical issues involved, the methodological advances, language test development,…

Peer reviewedAlliger, George M.; Williams, Kevin J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1989
The interrelationships among halo and leniency rating errors were examined using simulated rating data. As leniency increased, halo decreased when measured by dimension intercorrelations but increased when measured by standard deviations across dimensions. Implications of these results for the use of the various measures are discussed. (SLD)

Peer reviewedHolden, Ronald R.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1988
Used 112 adult patients from three psychiatric facilities to examine psychometric properties of Basic Personality Inventory scales. Found no differences across facilities; sex differences on some scales. Scales appeared to be internally consistent. Using clinical staff ratings as criteria, scales were found to possess both convergent and…

Peer reviewedSchulenberg, John E.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1988
To examine the magnitude/nature of short-term fluctuations in work values, seven college students completed the Work Values Inventory daily for approximately 100 days. Results of factor analysis cast doubt on the hypothesis that work values behave exclusively as trait-like dimensions and recommend better use of idiographic approaches. (TJH)

Peer reviewedAntonak, Richard F.; Harth, Robert – Mental Retardation, 1994
Psychometric analyses of data from 230 individuals yielded a 29-item 4-scale revision of the original 50-item 5-scale Mental Retardation Attitude Inventory. Results showed adequate item characteristics; adequate reliability and homogeneity; adequate reliability, homogeneity, specificity, and independence of the four scales; and initial validity…

Peer reviewedNangle, Douglas W.; And Others – Education and Treatment of Children, 1994
The Taxonomy of Problematic Social Situations for Children (TOPS) was completed for 30 fifth-grade children on 2 occasions 8 weeks apart. The TOPS total and factor scores were found to be highly temporally stable and convergent with peer evaluations administered concurrently, with the exception of peer "like most" nominations.…

Peer reviewedRainer, R. Kelly, Jr.; Miller, Marc D. – Computers in Human Behavior, 1996
Presents the results of multiple regression analysis, test-retest analysis, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis of the Computer Attitude Scale in order to assess the instrument's predictive ability, construct validity, and reliability. Findings indicate acceptable characteristics, including stability…

Peer reviewedChaiken, Scott R. – Intelligence, 1994
In experiments involving 178 and 190 military recruits, spatial, quantitative, and verbal inspection time (IT) and visual search (VS) tasks and an intelligence test were administered. Results indicate that IT performance has a component related to intelligence tests and an independent component related to processing speed tests such as VS. (SLD)

Peer reviewedCohan, Catherine L.; Bradbury, Thomas N. – Psychological Assessment, 1994
Psychometric properties of the Marital Coping Inventory (MCI) were evaluated by administering it and other measures to 120 newlywed couples, by observing spouses discussing marital problems, and by readministering the inventory to 104 spouses after 6 months. Results clarify coping in marriage. Implications for use of the instrument are discussed.…

Peer reviewedMateo, Miguel Angel; Fernandez, Juan – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
A total of 655 Spanish faculty members took part in a replication study to analyze the formal properties of the Academic Setting Evaluation Questionnaire, an evaluation of the academic setting for faculty members. Results support the three dimensions found in a previous analysis. (SLD)

Peer reviewedAllison, David B.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1992
A subscale of the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ), a subscale of the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire, and the Revised Restraint Scale were compared with 901 undergraduates. The TFEQ had the greatest discriminant validity with respect to social desirability and was the least susceptible to dissimulation. (SLD)

Peer reviewedMiller, Geraldine A.; Rice, Kenneth G. – Journal of College Student Development, 1993
Examined psychometric properties of problem checklist used as part of counseling center intake procedure. Collected data from closed client files and examined frequency with which items were endorsed as presenting problems, factor structure, and reliability of subscales. Results indicated that checklist could be reduced to about one-half original…

Peer reviewedCannito, Michael P. – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1991
This study examined emotional characteristics of 18 female spasmodic dysphonic subjects in comparison to matched normal controls across psychometric measures of depression, anxiety, and somatic complaints.
