Masters, John C.; Furman, Wyndol – 1975
This study explored the relationship between young children's affective states and general expectancies for rewarding or punishing events. Subjects were 24 children, ages 4 and 5, from middle-class families. Positive, neutral, or negative affect was induced by having the children think happy, neutral, or sad thoughts for a short period. Two tasks…

Keown, Lauriston L.; Hakstian, A. Ralph – 1972
This study involved an investigation of the use of Pearson r, tetrachoric r, phi, phi/phi maximum, and Kendall Tau-B coefficients as measures of association for the incomplete principal components analysis of simulated Likert scale attitudinal data, based on a known factor pattern and possessing different types of severe departures from normality.…

Corman, Louise; Budoff, Milton – 1973
This paper summarizes data comparing the correlation patterns of psychometric, social, and demographic variables with intelligence quotient (IQ) and learning potential (LP) scores derived from the Kohs Block Designs and Raven Progressive Matrices procedures. The sample consists of educable mentally retarded special class and institutionalized…

Flaugher, Ronald L. – 1973
Four confusing issues that have delayed progress toward an awareness that testing is not a source of unfairness for minority students are discussed: (1) the assumptions underlying most of our psychometric manipulations are often not acknowledged or understood; (2) the extent of the objectivity of psychometrics is frequently exaggerated; (3) the…

Dyer, Frederick N. – 1972
The review summarizes empirical findings and theoretical views related to the Stroop color-word phenomenon, in which naming of a color is disrupted and delayed by the presence of an "irrelevant" word denoting a color different from the color patch. It was deemed important to increase awareness of this phenomenon, since it involves basic…

Durell, A. B. – 1974
Learning hierarchies are networks of prerequisite relationships of instructional objectives. Seven measures of the validity of learning hierarchies were compared for their ability to identify correctly- and incorrectly-ordered hierarchies. A computer simulation model was used to generate stochastic data of known underlying structure. Analysis of…

Reynolds, Thomas J. – 1976
A method of factor extraction specific to a binary matrix, illustrated here as a person-by-item response matrix, is presented. The extraction procedure, termed ERGO, differs from the more commonly implemented dimensionalizing techniques, factor analysis and multidimensional scaling, by taking into consideration item difficulty. Utilized in the…

National Library for Psychology and Education, Stockholm (Sweden). – 1976
This publication is an annual catalog of abstracts of research reports published by the institutes of psychology and education at teacher training colleges and universities in Sweden, complete to June 1, 1976. The reports are grouped into twenty-seven broad subject fields according to the rules of PSYCHOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS and EUDISED THESAURUS.…

Peer reviewedNunnally, Jum C. – Educational Researcher, 1975
For the sake of simplicity and brevity, the development of psychometrics is discussed mainly in the context of studies of individual differences. (Author/AM)

Peer reviewedRock, Donald A.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1978
Systematic procedures are outlined for testing the assumption made on the dependent variables in a variety of statistical techniques. Specifically, procedures are outlined for testing the assumption that the dependent variables are measuring the same constructs in the same metrics with equivalent reliabilities across all subgroups. (Author/JKS)

The concurrent validity of the KIT was evaluated by correlating it with other tests of intellectual, perceptual, social, linguistic and psycholinguistic functioning, using a sample of 106 retardates. Positive correlations between the KIT and these other measures attest to its potential usefulness as a measure of intelligence. (Author)

Peer reviewedGreen, Samuel B.; Halpin, Gerald – Research in Higher Education, 1977
Students rated the quality of the items on a classroom test taken previously and psychometric items were calculated. Results showed that student ratings were related to item difficulty and that better students rated items as less ambiguous. Ambiguity ratings were more highly related to the item-test correlations for better students. (Author/LBH)

Peer reviewedLee, David J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This study evaluated the validity of the Type A behavior pattern as measured by paper-and-pencil questionnaires. The Jenkins Activity Survey, Framingham Type A Scale, Thurstone Activity Scales, a new bipolar adjective Type A measure, and measures of achievement and nurturance needs were completed by 418 students. (Author/BS)

Peer reviewedGretes, John A.; Wolfe, Delores M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This study investigates the validity of the Self-Assessment of Relative Strengths in Teaching (SARST), an instrument which measures self-expressed competence in teaching techniques. Its psychometric properties are discussed, including construct validity, stability, and internal consistency. Suggestions for possible use of the instrument in teacher…
