Zentall, Sydney S.; And Others – Journal of Educational Research, 1978
Increased activity during the teaching of spelling words resulted in hyperactive children having greater difficulty than the normal children in distinguishing relevant tasks from the extraneous stimulation. (Ed.)

Robinson, Earl J.; Lissitz, Robert W. – Psychometrika, 1977
This paper presents a simple random procedure for selecting subsets of stimulus pairs for presentation to subjects. The resulting set of ratings from the group of subjects allows the construction of a group space through the use of an existing computer program. (Author/JKS)

Chang, Hsing-Wu; Trehub, Sandra E. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1977
The ability of 5-month-old infants to process relational information was assessed by means of a habituation-dishabituation paradigm with cardiac deceleration as the response measure. (SB)

Albin, J. B.; Lobb, H. – Journal of Mental Deficiency Research, 1976
Compared was the trace and delay eyelid conditioning in 72 severely or profoundly retarded and 72 normal young adults. (CL)

Kolesar, Michael J.; Black, Kathryn Norcross – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1976
This study provided data showing that with increase in age there is an increase in spontaneous alternation behavior in preschool children. Mental age rather than chronological age is indicated as a more meaningful predictor of a child's tendency to seek out and approach varying stimulation. (GO)

Anderson, Daniel R.; And Others – Child Development, 1987
Examined the effects of an audiovisual distractor on the visual attention paid to TV by preschool children characterized as distractible. The effectiveness of an audiovisual distractor eliciting a head turn from the TV was diminished when TV viewing had been maintained for at least 15 seconds. (PCB)

Richards, John E. – Child Development, 1987
Tested the model which posits that heart-rate deceleration and respiratory sinus arrhythmia are indices of infant attention. Infants studied cross-sectionally at 14, 20, and 26 weeks of age were presented with complex patterns on a TV screen which were accompanied by an "interrupting stumulus". (Author/BN)

Beehler, Pamela J. Hoyes; Kamen, Gary – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1986
An investigation was conducted to equate auditory and electrocutaneous stimuli. These equated stimuli were used in a second investigation examining neuromotor responses to stimuli of varying intensity. Results are provided. (Author/MT)

Polatajko, H. J. – Occupational Therapy Journal of Research, 1987
The postural-sway response of five learning disabled (LD) and five nondisabled children was evaluated using a force platform. From statistical analysis of the two groups, the LD children appeared to use visual input to compensate for postural problems and had significant difficulty controlling posture with eyes closed. (SK)

Braine, Lila G.; Greene, Sharon L. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1987
To investigate the effect on young children's coding of spatial information, an array of boxes was varied in number, size, and arrangement and was shown to 20 toddlers. Only the number of boxes defining the left and right sides of the array influenced performance; that is, multiple boxes were associated with the use of external objects as spatial…

Luciano, M. Carmen – Applied Research in Mental Retardation, 1986
The acquisition of productive intraverbal behavior involving the emission of thematically related responses was evaluated with three mentally retarded children (13-16 years old). Training was conducted using an errorless discrimination procedure (prompt delay) and a variation to transfer vocal responses from control of visual stimuli (tact…

Byrne, Joseph M.; Horowitz, Frances Degen – Child Development, 1984
Examines discrimination of geometric shapes by three-month-old infants who were presented with geometric stimuli moving laterally at two different velocities. Finds that subjects discriminate between geometric forms at velocities that, according to previous findings, might interfere with shape discrimination. Discusses the possible interactive…

Eason, Linda J.; And Others – Journal of Special Education Technology, 1983
The constant task condition in which only trials on the target task were presented during each session led to faster response acquisition by two of four autistic children (9-10 years old) than the varied task methods in which trials for three nontarget tasks were interspersed with trials for the target task. (CL)
