Man needs a variety of sensory experiences for normal functioning. The theory explored attempts to demonstrate that conditions exist in which the symptoms of sensory deprivation may occur during times when sensory stimuli are optimal. (Author)

Reports a study of 140 first-grade children which, contrary to Osgood's findings, revealed an increase of word perception errors when input information was reduced by increasing presentation speed. The inability of tachistoscopic drills to provide valid learning reinforcement for sight vocabulary study was implied. Bibliography. (MD)

The performance of language impaired children (four to eight years old) on auditory identification and sequencing tasks which employed different stimuli was studied in two experiments. Results indicated that some children performed significantly better when words rather than tones were used as stimuli.(Author/SEW)
