Electronic Journal of Research in Educational Psychology, v23 n65 p1-26 2025
Introduction: Educators express a keen interest in academic engagement; however, there exists a paucity of research examining the intricate interplay among academic engagement, mindset, and academic hope. This study endeavors to address this gap by investigating university students and soliciting their responses through instruments gauging academic hope, mindset, and academic engagement. Method: A total of 355 undergraduate students (163 males, 192 females) participated in the current study, they were enrolled in the second semester of the academic year 2022/2023. They were selected by cluster randomization from mandatory courses courses to ensure diversity in gender, specialization, and years of study. They completed three scales of mindset, academic hope, and academic engagement. Results: The findings revealed elevated levels of academic hope, with both Deliberative and Implemental mindsets registering at a moderate level, alongside a similar moderate level of academic engagement. Additionally, the analysis demonstrated that academic hope emerged as a robust predictor of academic engagement, with the implemental mindset following closely in significance. Discussion and Conclusion: The study examed the role of academic hope and the deliberative and implemental mindsets as proficient predictors of academic engagement. These factors emerge as pivotal contributors to the amelioration of the learning process.
