A study using results of the American College Testing Service alumni survey evaluated the perceived utility of academic majors, congruence between major and career, quality of educational preparation, and effects of gender on the outcome measures for 55,000 college alumni. Data from the Benefit-Cost Project at the University of Minnesota are analyzed, involving 239 mildly handicapped students who had exited school between 1977 and 1984. Few significant differences were found between graduates and non-graduates, though graduates were employed at a slightly higher rate. (DB)

The study of about 5000 1980 British university graduates found that the most favorable remuneration is by those who achieved a high class of degree, studied a vocational subject, obtained a professional qualification, avoided unemployment, and who work in London or overseas. Among 1,245 college graduates in business, career strategies and expectations did not differ between Hispanics and non-Hispanic Whites, among Hispanics of varying cultural identification, or between men and women. About 31 percent of Hispanics and 47 percent of women reported ethnic and sex discrimination, respectively. Contains 30 references. (SV)

The study evaluated the postschool status of approximately 2,600 special education and 1,100 nonhandicapped students at 6 to 30 months after school exit.
