Simons, Roland; Goddard, Richard; Patton, Wendy – Career Development International, 2000
Unemployed managers (n=95) completed the Vocational Interest Survey for Australia. Compared to a sample of secondary students, they had higher interest in vocational activities; they were able to discriminate more dimensions of vocational interests than a nonmanagerial sample did. Multisample norming was recommended. (SK)

Edwardy, Jeffrey M.; Pontius, Jeffrey S. – Library Resources & Technical Services, 2001
Discussion of shelf reading as a method to maintain library books in their proper location focuses on a statistical approach to determine when shelf reading is necessary. Lestina, Diane C.; Greene, Michael; Voas, Robert B.; Wells, Joann – Evaluation Review, 1999
Describes the multistage sampling system used in the 1996 national roadside survey of driver blood alcohol and compares it to the sampling methods used in prior surveys in 1973 and 1986. Although many more drivers were sampled in the most recent survey, the procedures are similar enough to allow comparison of results. (SLD)

Allen, Nancy L.; Donoghue, John R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1996
Examined the effect of complex sampling of items on the measurement of differential item functioning (DIF) using the Mantel-Haenszel procedure through a Monte Carlo study. Suggests the superiority of the pooled booklet method when items are selected for examinees according to a balanced incomplete block design. Discusses implications for other DIF…

Tonidandel, Scott; Overall, John E. – Psychological Methods, 2004
A split-sample replication criterion originally proposed by J. E. Overall and K. N. Magee (1992) as a stopping rule for hierarchical cluster analysis is applied to multiple data sets generated by sampling with replacement from an original simulated primary data set. An investigation of the validity of this bootstrap procedure was undertaken using…

Van Onna, Marieke J. H. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2004
Coefficient "H" is used as an index of scalability in nonparametric item response theory (NIRT). It indicates the degree to which a set of items rank orders examinees. Theoretical sampling distributions, however, have only been derived asymptotically and only under restrictive conditions. Bootstrap methods offer an alternative possibility to…

DeLeon, Iser G.; Toole, Lisa M.; Gutshall, Katharine A.; Bowman, Lynn G. – Research in Developmental Disabilities: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2005
Recent studies have used pretreatment analyses, termed competing stimulus assessments, to identify items that most effectively displace the aberrant behavior of individuals with developmental disabilities. In most studies, there appeared to have been no systematic basis for selecting the sampling period (ranging from 30 s to 10 min) in which items…

Gugiu, P. Cristian – Journal of MultiDisciplinary Evaluation, 2007
The constraints of conducting evaluations in real-world settings often necessitate the implementation of less than ideal designs. Unfortunately, the standard method for estimating the precision of a result (i.e., confidence intervals [CI]) cannot be used for evaluative conclusions that are derived from multiple indicators, measures, and data…
