McKelvey, Bill – Administrative Science Quarterly, 1975
After a brief review of organization classification, multivariate approaches toward the empirical identification of such classifications are discussed. Ten guidelines for conducting future multivariate classificatory studies are presented, supported by a critique of two published large-scale empirical studies. (Author)

Miller, P. M.; Dale, R. R. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1974
The university degree results of students from co-educational and single-sex schools compared and found to be closely similar except that more first year drop-outs may occur among the single-sex educated students. (Editor)

Times Educational Supplement (London), 1974
A recently retired public school headmaster analyses the means and motives of a group of parents - and concludes that sacrifices don't always benefit the children. (Editor)

Feild, Hubert S.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1974
Article attempted to determine the variables related to overall satisfaction with graduate school and to determine the significance of two sets of variables, one set intrinsic and the other set extrinsic to students' graduate education, in predicting overall satisfaction. (Author/RK)

Bechtoldt, Harold P. – Psychometrika, 1974
Procedures developed by Joreskog for studying similarities and differences in factor structures between different groups were applied to data from a study by Thurstoen to investigate the sampling stability of a hypothesized isolated configuration. The hypothesis of an isolated configuration was rejected but not by much. (Author/RC)

Luh, Wei-Ming; Olejnik, Stephen – 1990
Two-stage sampling procedures for comparing two population means when variances are heterogeneous have been developed by D. G. Chapman (1950) and B. K. Ghosh (1975). Both procedures assume sampling from populations that are normally distributed. The present study reports on the effect that sampling from non-normal distributions has on Type I error…

Bjornstad, Jan F. – 1990
Modeling the population in survey sampling problems continues to be controversial. An important reason is that the likelihood principle makes it somewhat necessary to model the population. Estimating the population total in two-stage survey sampling is considered, making use of a "superpopulation" model. The problem is then really one of…

Thissen, David; Wainer, Howard – 1983
A statistical method is described and illustrated which provides confidence envelopes around item response functions. Examples of 95 percent confidence envelopes for the one-, two-, and three-parameter logistic response models are given. In addition, the authors describe N-line plots, which show the genesis of the envelope as well as the density…

Boser, Judith A. – 1988
This paper helps researchers develop criteria for conducting surveys. Cost considerations frame the paper's suggestions. Specifically, the text advises that researchers consider the human and material resources needed, type of survey instrument, medium for conducting the survey (mail, telephone, personal interview, etc.), data analysis…

Barfield, Vivian; Burlingame, Martin – Journal of Experimental Education, 1974
The primary purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the teacher's perception of pupil control and three particular variables, namely, the socioeconomic status of the school's clientele, the teacher's sense of efficacy, and the bureaucratic level of the school (elementary, junior, or senior).

McCleskey, Joyce – Southern Journal of Educational Research, 1974
The present training study sought to determine if specific experimental procedures in paradigmatic language would cause differences in reading readiness test achievement among experimental, placebo, and control groups of beginning first-grade pupils. (Editor)
