Isherwood, Geoffrey B. – High School Journal, 1973
The purpose of the study is to build upon previous theory and research on the concept of authority and to relate this knowledge to current practice in the public schools. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Concept Formation, Correlation, Definitions, Models
Parry, Hugh J.; Cisin, Ira H. – Today's Education, 1973
In this paper the results of a survey conducted by the Social Research Group on drug use are discussed. Parent and student attitudes on drugs are compared. (RK)

Lydiat, M. – Journal of Moral Education, 1974
This article described the results of a study of children's moral judgments with the accent on the parents of some of these children. (Author/RK)

Linn, Robert L. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1983
When the precise basis of selection effect on correlation and regression equations is unknown but can be modeled by selection on a variable that is highly but not perfectly related to observed scores, the selection effects can lead to the commonly observed "overprediction" results in studies of predictive bias. Silverstein, A. B. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Estimates of the validity of random short forms can serve as benchmarks against which to appraise the validity of particular short forms. Formulas are presented for estimating the validity of random short forms and illustrated with Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory data. (Author/CM)

Everitt, B. S. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1981
Results show that the proposed sampling distribution of the test appears to be appropriate only for sample sizes above 50, and for data where the sample size is 10 times the number of variables. For such cases the power of the test is found to be fairly low. (Author/RL)

Shoemaker, David M.; Shoemaker, Judith Sauls – Evaluation and Program Planning: An International Journal, 1981
When evaluating the effectiveness of an educational program, multiple matrix sampling is particularly effective and efficient when the goal of the evaluation is estimating group (as opposed to individual) performance. The technique is described in some detail, with its advantages and disadvantages, and examples of its application are given.…

MacCallum, Robert C.; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1979
Questions are raised concerning differences between traditional metric multiple regression, which assumes all variables to be measured on interval scales, and nonmetric multiple regression. The ordinal model is generally superior in fitting derivation samples but the metric technique fits better than the nonmetric in cross-validation samples.…

Pedulla, Joseph J.; Airasian, Peter W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
Estimates of population values obtained using three sampling techniques (simple random sampling, stratified random sampling, and cluster sampling) and three size samples for each technique (10%, 25% and 50%) were compared with known "population" values. 25% simple random sample provided quite good estimates of the "population"…

Berk, Ronald A. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1980
A sampling methodology is proposed for determining lengths of tests designed to assess the comprehension of written discourse. It is based on Bormuth's transformational analysis, within a domain-referenced framework. Guidelines are provided for computing sample size and selecting sentences to which the transformational rules can be applied.…

Marsh, Edward – Social Behavior and Personality, 1978
Maslow's need hierarchy theory is restated by means of a matrix arrangement of the constructs within the theory. After consideration of the consequences of this restatement, some significant research is discussed and directions for future research suggested. (Author)

Durrance, Raymond E. – Journal of Education for Librarianship, 1980
Discusses the importance of a knowledge of basic statistical concepts for a librarian's education, and the problem of implementing such an introductory course. Two class exercises dealing with sampling and probability and the Central Limit Theorem are described, and 11 references are included. (BK)
