The dropout prevention model presented in this paper is derived from the assumption that dropping out of school is not totally a function of characteristics of youth who drop out. (Author)

Senior high boys and girls who work for pay tend to be less academically oriented, to have more interest in vocational education, and to work for somewhat diverse reasons with marked differences between the sexes. The results of the study have a number of implications for high school guidance programs. (Author/CG)

Supplements the available scarce data on the attitudes of black males toward work. Finding were that: (1) black workers support the work norms of society; (2) jobs with occupational status are desired; and, (3) poor work habits may be due to adjustment problems and fear of dead-end jobs rather than alienation to work norms. Problems of training, retraining, and counseling older workers are examined in terms of some of their characteristics, such as slower work habits, decreased physical strength, adaptability, and lack of self confidence. Ways to compensate for possible handicaps through training and counseling are suggested. (Author)
