Peer reviewedEvans, Roy; And Others – Educational Research, 1975
Examines three reliability characteristics of the Harris revision of the Goodenough "Draw-a-man" Test when used with five-year-old school entrants. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Educational Research, Educational Testing, Freehand Drawing
Peer reviewedBall, Samuel – Journal of Social Issues, 1976
The components of three areas that pose special problems in the evaluation of television programs are discussed: design, sampling, and measurement. Methods for ameliorating difficulties in these problem areas are suggested. (Author)
Descriptors: Evaluation Methods, Evaluation Needs, Measurement Objectives, Measurement Techniques
Peer reviewedWilliams, Don; And Others – Journal of Higher Education, 1987
Faculty members participate in the governance of their university according to their perceptions of the faculty's role in that process. Empirical evidence for stipulating six distinct but complementary perspectives toward their governance role held by faculty members at a major Western public research university is presented. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: College Administration, College Faculty, Governance, Higher Education
Burns, Marilyn – Instructor, 1987
Alphabet Math is an investigation of the order of usage of letters in the alphabet. Children collect individual data then compare and interpret it to make inferences. The inferences are compared to analyses of larger samples. How this is done is described. (MT)
Descriptors: Data Interpretation, Elementary Education, Elementary School Mathematics, Learning Activities
Peer reviewedGarg, Rashmi; And Others – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1986
For the purpose of obtaining data to use in test development, multiple matrix sampling plans were compared to examinee sampling plans. Data were simulated for examinees, sampled from a population with a normal distribution of ability, responding to items selected from an item universe. (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: Difficulty Level, Monte Carlo Methods, Sampling, Statistical Studies
Peer reviewedRasmussen, Jeffrey Lee – Evaluation Review, 1985
A recent study (Blair and Higgins, 1980) indicated a power advantage for the Wilcoxon W Test over student's t-test when calculated from a common mixed-normal sample. Results of the present study indicate that the t-test corrected for outliers shows a superior power curve to the Wilcoxon W.
Descriptors: Computer Simulation, Error of Measurement, Hypothesis Testing, Power (Statistics)
Peer reviewedMcClintock, Charles – Educational Administration Quarterly, 1985
Highlights the conceptual importance of defining administrative processes as units of analysis when conducting case studies of educational administration, identifies methodological advantages of a systematic approach to stratified cluster sampling, and suggests that information management is an important aspect of the school administrator's job.…
Descriptors: Administrator Role, Case Studies, Educational Research, Elementary Secondary Education
Kadar-Fulop, Judit; Bathory, Zoltan – Evaluation in Education: An International Review Series, 1985
Hungary's national institute of education carried out the Curriculum Theory Department (CTD-80) national asessment in 1980. Peer reviewedRhodes, William M. – Evaluation Review, 1985
Prediction of success in a special program often guides program participant selection and treatment. If the statistical analysis used to develop such predictions is based on the special selectivity built into the program, the predictions can be misleading and the validation tests uninformative. Federal district court pretrial release data is used…
Descriptors: Cohort Analysis, Criminals, Mathematical Models, Predictive Validity
Peer reviewedClark, Philip M. – Library and Information Science Research, An International Journal, 1984
Describes three methods of sample size determination, each having its use in investigation of social science problems: Attribute method; Continuous Variable method; Galtung's Cell Size method. Statistical generalization, benefits of cell size method (ease of use, trivariate analysis and trichotyomized variables), and choice of method are…
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Library Research, Research Methodology, Sample Size
Peer reviewedKratochvil, Byron; And Others – Analytical Chemistry, 1984
This review, designed to make analysts aware of uncertainties introduced into analytical measurements during sampling, is organized under these headings: general considerations; theory; standards; and applications related to mineralogy, soils, sediments, metallurgy, atmosphere, water, biology, agriculture and food, medical and clinical areas, oil…
Descriptors: Agriculture, Biology, Chemical Analysis, Chemistry
Peer reviewedMcDonald, Robert S. – Analytical Chemistry, 1984
This review on infrared spectrometry covering the period from late 1981 to late 1983, is divided into nine sections. Topic areas include: books; reviews; analytical applications; biochemical applications; environmental applications; polymer applications; infrared instrumentation; sampling techniques; and software and algorithms. Peer reviewedManners, George E., Jr.; Steger, Joseph A. – Personnel Psychology, 1975
Article investigated the stability of both the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS) (Edwards, 1959) and the Guilford-Zimmerman Temperment Survey (GZTS) (Guilford and Zimmerman, 1949) by presenting new data on the intercorrelations of the scales in these tests. (Author/RK)
