An analysis of the American agriculture movement begun in 1977 provides insight into group behavior, mobilization, and activation. Leaders who had recruited participants and organized local and state activities were interviewed. Problems of organizing, specifically when protest is involved, are also discussed. (KC)

Emphasizes that educating children for peace requires that parents and teachers (1) recognize and deal with the anxieties provoked by nuclear war and that (2) they provide role models by participating in the antinuclear movement. The internal contradictions in the behavior of contemporary Marxist educational activists who receive all of the benefits of their membership in the educational elite while demanding the overthrow of capitalist societies is examined. Student and nonstudent protest in Japan and the Soviet Union are compared through analysis of protest demonstrations along several contextual, behavioral, and outcome variables. Uniformity in structure is hypothesized to derive from similar characteristics in the countries. Research and policy development implications are discussed. (MSE)
