Describes a model project at Fort Hays State University in which college students gather basic research data from older adults during summer vacations in their hometowns. Examples of successful projects and constraints on the implementation of such a model are discussed. (JAC)

A plan for evaluating the effectiveness of the Agenda for Action of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is presented. Major dimensions of the evaluation model, research questions related to each agenda recommendation, approaches to an evaluation, and the dissemination of the agenda are considered. (MNS)

Reforms of educational practice arise from attractiveness of new ideas rather than from research findings because researchers import frameworks from other disciplines rather than using actual classroom phenomena as a basis for conceptual apparatuses and methods. (JW)
