Easterday, Kenneth E.; Paul, Oliver Daye – Southern Journal of Educational Research, 1980
Comparison of seven levels of student-teacher compatibility with student achievement found a positive significant relationship between total compatibility and compatibility in the personal need for inclusion with student achievement. Limited evidence was also found for a relationship between achievement and pupil-teacher compatibility in the…

Westerberg, Arthur W. – Chemical Engineering Education, 1980
By providing an example problem in solving sets of nonlinear algebraic equations, the advantages and disadvantages of two methods for its solution, the tearing approach v the Newton-Raphson approach, are elucidated. (CS)

Harper, Eon – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1980
There were 120 pupils in years 1 to 5 from two schools which were interviewed using specially prepared tasks to study the variety of interpretations given to letters by adolescents. Results indicate that two distinct conceptual understandings of the role played by a letter in relation to geometrical data exist in pupil's thinking. (Author/TG)

Burrill, Gail – NASSP Bulletin, 1997
Algebra, an important skill, provides a way to represent situations so they can be analyzed carefully. In the new algebra classroom, students will listen and talk to one another while learning to understand problems and devise solutions. Teachers will organize tasks (involving graphing, rating, and ranking techniques) to help students discover the…
