DeZelar-Tiedman, Christine – Internet Reference Services Quarterly, 1997
To determine if known-item searching was possible with four of the Web's most popular search engines (Alta Vista, Excite, Infoseek Guide, and Lycos A2Z), searches for 39 known Web sites were performed. The search engines were then ranked according to retrieval of relevant and exact matches and the order in which the search results appeared. (PEN)

Rose, Susan A.; And Others – Child Development, 1988
Forty-six full-term and 54 high-risk preterm infants were tested at six, seven, and/or eight months of age (corrected age for preterms) on assessments of visual recognition memory and tactual-visual cross-modal transfer. Scores significantly predicted Stanford-Binet IQ scores. Stability coefficients attained the highest degree of predictive…

Allison, David B.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1992
A subscale of the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ), a subscale of the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire, and the Revised Restraint Scale were compared with 901 undergraduates. The TFEQ had the greatest discriminant validity with respect to social desirability and was the least susceptible to dissimulation. (SLD)

Carvajal, Howard H.; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1992
Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Revised and Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised were administered to 51 preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade students. Although two of four Pearson correlations between these two instruments were statistically significant, they may not be of practical importance. (Author)
Descriptors: Comparative Testing, Intelligence Quotient, Intelligence Tests, Preschool Children

Smeets, Paul M. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1994
Compared two procedures for establishing and reversing stimulus control transfer across simple discrimination in children. Results indicated that both procedures were more effective in establishing that, in reversing stimulus control transfer, stimulus contiguity was more effective than match-to-sample training; and both procedures were more…

Gressard, Risa P.; Loyd, Brenda H. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1991
A Monte Carlo study, which simulated 10,000 examinees' responses to four tests, investigated the effect of item stratification on parameter estimation in multiple matrix sampling of achievement data. Practical multiple matrix sampling is based on item stratification by item discrimination and a sampling plan with moderate number of subtests. (SLD)

Gerbing, David W.; Tuley, Michael R. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
The Sixteen Personality Factor Inventory (16PF) was examined concerning recent methodological and substantive developments: restricted (confirmatory) factor analysis, and the five-factor model of personality as operationalized in the NEO-Personality Inventory. Two studies with 645 college students show that the 16PF remains robust in light of…

Cox, Brian J.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1993
To study the distinction between self-reports of anxiety and depression, a factor analysis was conducted using responses of 298 anxiety disorder patients on the Beck Depression Inventory and the State Anxiety subscale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Results suggest that the two conditions can be reliably differentiated in self-reports. (SLD)

O'Sullivan, Michael J.; Jemelka, Ron P. – Psychological Assessment, 1993
Levels of hostility and type of crime were compared in 94 male offenders with 3-4 or 4-3 Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) high point pairs and in randomly selected offenders without these pairs. Results do not support these codes as evidence of a proclivity for violence. (SLD)

Rafferty, Eileen A.; Treff, August V. – ERS Spectrum, 1994
Addresses issues faced by institutions attempting to design school profiles to meet accountability standards. Reports of high-stakes test results can be skewed by choice of statistic type (percent of students passing versus mean scores), sample bias, geographical transients, and omission errors. Administrators must look beyond "common…

Wells, Gordon; Arauz, Rebeca Mejia – Journal of the Learning Sciences, 2006
There is increasing agreement among those who study classrooms that learning is likely to be most effective when students are actively involved in the dialogic coconstruction of meaning about topics that are of significance to them. This article reports the results of an extended collaborative action research project in which teachers attempted to…

Nugent, William R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2006
One of the most important effect sizes used in meta-analysis is the standardized mean difference (SMD). In this article, the conditions under which SMD effect sizes based on different measures of the same construct are directly comparable are investigated. The results show that SMD effect sizes from different measures of the same construct are…

Ang, Cheng; Miller, M. David – 1993
The power of the procedure of W. Stout to detect deviations from essential unidimensionality in two-dimensional data was investigated for minor, moderate, and large deviations from unidimensionality using criteria for deviations from unidimensionality based on prior research. Test lengths of 20 and 40 items and sample sizes of 700 and 1,500 were…

Lai, Morris K.; Saka, Thomas – 1991
An analytical procedure that uses fall kindergarten assessment data to retroactively create equivalent comparison groups for longitudinal research and evaluation studies was designed and tested, and then analytically and empirically compared with random assignment to treatment. Students entering kindergarten in Hawaii are administered the Peabody…

Green, Kathy E. – 1989
The psychometric utility of six experimental cognitive style (CS) measures was analyzed. Examinees were 1,135 clients of the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation who, during 1985, completed at least one of the six CS tests. Information is provided on measure reliability; relationships among CS measures; relationships with standard battery aptitude…
