This research addresses the question of the comparability of equal scores on the same test from children in different grades. The results indicate that the scores are comparable, and support the assignment of Iowa Tests of Basic Skills levels that match the child's developmental level. (Author)

An experiment was conducted that contrasted a variant of computerized adaptive testing, self-adapted testing, with two traditional tests. Participants completed a self-report of text anxiety and were randomly assigned to take one of the three tests of verbal ability. Subjects generally chose more difficult items as the test progressed. Using a random sample of 68 high school students learning about consumer credit in home economics classes, the study measured learning of an experimental group using computer-assisted instruction and a control group using supervised reading methods. Teachers' ratings of elementary- and secondary-level hearing impaired students in Denmark (N=289) and the United States (N=732) were collected and compared; results showed that scores on the Meadow/Kendall Social Emotional Inventory subscales (social adjustment, emotional adjustment, self-image) were almost identical.
