Examining Racial-Ethnic and Gender Differences on the Praxis School Psychologist Tests, September 2023-August 2024. Research Reports: Data Brief. Volume 8, Number 4
Nicholas W. Affrunti; Serena Sowin
National Association of School Psychologists
In this data brief, we examine both the scores and pass rates for the Praxis 5403 School Psychology test (Praxis 5403) by racial-ethnic group and gender for the period September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024. The Praxis 5403 is the most often used external assessment in school psychology, and a passing score on the Praxis 5403 is a requirement to earn the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential. Data were provided to the National Association of School Psychologists by the Educational Testing Service, including preset categories for racial-ethnic group and gender. The Praxis 5403 pass rates did not significantly differ by gender. Although there were significant differences in Praxis 5403 pass rates by racial-ethnic grouping, all racial-ethnic groups had a pass rate of 81% or higher. The data within represent a step in better understanding the fairness of the Praxis 5403 test for all individuals.
