The theory that parallel and interactional patterns respectively characterize traditional and modern American marriages was tested for relevance in a New Zealand sample. From the results it seems that the major modern New Zealand style may be rational, orderly, and unemotional. Other results and limitations of the sample are discussed. (Author/CG)

Analysis of the data indicated that the low self actualizing group had the highest rate of conditioning, while the high self actualizing individuals showed a nonsignificant gain in the rate of affective self disclosures during conditioning but were more resistant to extinction as compared to the low and the moderate groups. The purpose of this research was to determine the degree to which positive relationships between self-descriptions and/or interpersonal descriptions and ratings of competence generalized over different situations. Generality was found for the interpersonal descriptions but not for the self-descriptions. (Author)

The results showed that in spite of an apparent increase in candor resulting from a warm introduction to the MMPI, there was little evidence in these data of a concomitant increase in the acknowledgement of psychological problems, thus questioning the notion that high K and low F/K scores cover up psychological symptoms.
