A game was used to assess children's judgments about altruistic, cooperative, or competitive payoff. In a second experiment, small groups were asked to construct new words with the option to work alone or to collaborate. The results of this study support the use of trained volunteers in systematic controlled activities with prisoners. For a sample of 75 female senior nursing students the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale exhibited statistically significant correlations with the Adjective Check List (ACL) scales of Endurance, Nurturance, and Affiliation. Students who became more socially acceptable to their peers cited the increased population and environment of junior high school, physical maturation and reduced parental protectiveness as reasons.
