Describes a reading and listening study aid called a map" which, in addition to synthesizing information, displays it in pictorial form with special markings for main and supporting ideas. (MS)

Paper presented at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association, Los Angeles, California, February, 1969, and supported by the U.S. Office of Education which demonstrates the potential value of instructing children to understand certain linguistic forms involved in the communication of relationships. Results indicated that Ss were able to accurately repeat sentences which they did not understand as long as imitation was immediate. Delaying imitation three seconds adversely affected imitation of noncomprehended sentences while having no significant effect on comprehended sentences. (Author)
