Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Force, Laboratory Experiments
Romer, R. H. – Amer J Phys, 1970
Describes a double pendulum apparatus and its mode of operation to produce a great variety of figures similar to Lissajous figures. The author suggests that several advanced physics topics can be studied with the aid of this instrument. Bibliography. (LC)

Peer reviewedBall, Karlene; Sekuler, Robert – Science, 1982
Training improves the ability of human observers to discriminate between two similar directions of motion. This gradual improvement is specific to the direction on which an observer is trained, enduring for several months. Improvement does not affect motion perception generally, nor does it depend on recognition of details of the movement. (Author)
Descriptors: Eye Movements, Motion, Training, Visual Discrimination
Peer reviewedBall, William; Dibble, Ann – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1980
Results of two studies were consistent with the view that 3-month-old infants perceive movement in depth during their own movement. They can move to avoid a surface just prior to contacting it. (Author/RH)
Descriptors: Depth Perception, Infant Behavior, Infants, Motion
Peer reviewedCohen, Robert; Weatherford, David L. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1980
Assesses the effects of the specific route traveled, intervening barriers, and different lengths of routes on the spatial knowledge of second graders, sixth graders and college students for a novel experimental environment. (MP)
Descriptors: Age Differences, College Students, Elementary School Students, Environmental Influences
Peer reviewedGordon, Kurtiss J. – American Journal of Physics, 1980
Provides information on the calculation of the redshift to blueshift ratio introduced by the transverse Doppler effect at relativistic speeds. Indicates that this shift should be mentioned in discussions of whether quasars are "local" rather than "cosmological" objects. (GS)
Descriptors: Astronomy, College Science, Higher Education, Mathematical Applications
Peer reviewedWithers, Brian – School Arts, 1979
The evolution and change in Alexander Calder's mobiles--from the mid-1920's to his death in 1976--are discussed, and it is suggested that the creative art teacher can easily use Calder's design techniques to enhance an art education program. (KC)
Descriptors: Aerospace Technology, Art Education, Art Products, Creative Art
