An interdisciplinary geriatrics team training institute focused on cutting-edge health care themes had 30 participants. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation showed that participants sought specific, work-applicable insights; the focus on new approaches was critical; and careful attention to educational program marketing was needed. Health occupations students were given three types of interventions: (1) direct teaching about work ethic; (2) work ethic demonstrated through modeling and teachable moments; and (3) student self-evaluation of work behavior. A combination of the methods was most effective. Most students were able to evaluate their own behavior accurately. (SK)

Ethical dilemmas faced by an academic fieldwork coordinator, clinical preceptor, and student illustrate the complex issues surrounding confidentiality in allied health clinical experience. Awareness of the law and professional codes of ethics should guide decision making. (SK)

Enrollment in clinical laboratory science has declined over 50% since 1980. Reasons include lagging salaries, limited advancement opportunities, lack of doctoral-level faculty, and the expense of operating programs. Strategic organizational changes are needed to revive the field. (SK)
