Smart, John C. – Research in Higher Education, 1983
The relationship between the citation rates and perceived quality of education journals was examined and the results showed a weaker relationship than reported in studies of other disciplines. Implications for subsequent research on the complex process of knowledge diffusion and utilization are discussed. (Author/MLW)

Results of a study comparing two approaches to the identification of important literature in endocrinology reveals that association between ranking of cited items using the two methods is not statistically significant and use of citation or historical analysis alone will not result in same set of literature.
