Research on the effect of vocal activity and race of the applicant on evaluations in job interviews indicated that: 1) minimal vocal activity negatively influenced evaluation; 2) Black applicants were evaluated differently from White applicants; and 3) vocal activity was more important in interview evaluations than race. Audiotapes of the therapists' verbal responses in the real and analogue interviews were rated along four process dimensions. Two low-inference teacher clarity variables, vagueness terms and mazes, are discussed in terms of their effect on student achievement and on student perception of lesson effectiveness. Results indicate that high frequencies of teacher vagueness terms inhibit student achievement and cause students to perceive the lesson as ineffective. (Authors/JN)

Studied the use of a social learning approach to reduce the unpopularity of an 11-year-old girl. Used a multiple baseline design to successively implement reinforcement contingencies on each class of social skill. Substantial improvements in performance were noted.
