Peer reviewedSpilsbury, Georgina – Intelligence, 1992
The hypothesis that a task that increases in complexity (increasing its correlation with a central measure of intelligence) does so by increasing its dimensionality by tapping individual differences or another variable was supported by findings from 46 adults aged 20-70 years performing a mental counting task. (SLD)

Bardos, Achilles N.; Prewett, Peter N. – Diagnostique, 1991
This study, involving 70 intermediate grade students, found that scores on the Matrix Analogies Test-Short Form (MAT-SF) were significantly lower than all of the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills (CTBS) composite scores. The MAT-SF correlated significantly with all areas of the CTBS composite and spelling scores. (Author/JDD)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Cognitive Tests, Correlation, High Risk Students
Peer reviewedOverall, John E.; Magee, Kevin N. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1992
The following models which provide an estimate of the reliability of a rating scale are described: (1) disattenuation; (2) common factor; (3) external criterion; (4) treatment effects; and (5) regression. Such models are especially useful in selecting, evaluating, and training participants in clinical research. (SLD)
Descriptors: Correlation, Estimation (Mathematics), Evaluation Methods, Evaluators
Peer reviewedZhang, Shuqiang; And Others – TESOL Quarterly, 1992
Multiple regression analysis is discussed as useful for studying the effect of a variable while controlling for the effects of others and for estimating the total effect of all predictor variables together. It is suggested that in English-as-a-Second-Language proficiency measurement, regression coefficients should not be the basis for judging…
Descriptors: Correlation, English (Second Language), Evaluation Problems, Language Research
Peer reviewedVansickle, Timothy R.; Kapes, Jerome T. – Computers in Human Behavior, 1993
Describes a study of undergraduates that was conducted to examine the equivalence of the mode of administration using the paper-pencil and computer-based versions of the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory. Differences in scores are discussed, time taken for the inventories is studied, and further research is suggested. (Contains 16 references.)…
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Computer Assisted Testing, Correlation, Higher Education
Peer reviewedOberhofer, Cecilia M. A. – Information Processing and Management, 1993
Discussion of the use of scientific information disseminated in primary subject literature focuses on a study that developed a methodology for hypothesis testing that measured document obsolescence by means of citation analysis and content obsolescence by expert opinions and then compared the results. Information validity and information utility…

Peer reviewedGarrett, Kimberly K.; Moran, Michael J. – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1992
The severity of phonological involvement of 20 phonologically impaired children (ages 5-9) was compared using 5 measures: phonological deviance scores, percent consonants correct based on either connected speech or single words, and perceptual ratings from elementary education majors and graduate students in speech-language pathology. All five…

Peer reviewedMalgady, Robert G.; Colon-Malgady, Gerardita – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
The reliability of residual scores created in the analysis of covariance in pretest-posttest designs, adjusted for a singe covariate, is compared with that of simple difference scores as relevant parameters vary. Little gain in reliability is created by analysis of covariance, which also suffers from reliability problems. (SLD)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Comparative Analysis, Correlation, Equations (Mathematics)
Peer reviewedLeung, S. Alvin; And Others – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1992
A total of 211 male and 353 female gifted high school juniors completed the Vocational Identity Scale of Holland et al.'s My Vocational Situation (MVS) and the Self-Directed Search. Results suggested that vocational identity was not related to consistency or differentiation, either because the MVS may be inaccurate or the gifted population may be…
Descriptors: Academically Gifted, Career Choice, Correlation, Grade 11
Peer reviewedKlein, James D. – Educational Technology, Research and Development, 1991
Describes a study that examined preservice teacher success in acquiring and applying principles of learning and instructional design. Tests that measured attainment of the essentials of learning objectives and attainment of competency-based instruction (CBI) objectives are described, and lesson planning performance is examined. (24 references)…
Descriptors: Competency Based Education, Correlation, Criterion Referenced Tests, Higher Education
Peer reviewedMcKenna, Linda M. – Educational Technology, Research and Development, 1993
Discussion of the development of educational radio programs highlights one particular program, "Kid's Corner;" introduces a method to identify and classify the attributes from the radio program; discusses those attributes which were shown to relate to children's judgments of appeal of the program; and suggests implications for…
Descriptors: Childhood Attitudes, Correlation, Educational Radio, Instructional Design
Marcus, Joseph C. – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1993
This study, involving 90 children with mental retardation and epilepsy, classified and compared level of retardation, neurological findings, and electroencephalograms with the quality of seizure control. No correlation was found between quality of control and any of these parameters. (Author/JDD)
Descriptors: Children, Classification, Correlation, Drug Therapy
Peer reviewedCronin, Blaise; And Others – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1993
Analyzes the scale and significance of acknowledgment behavior in 10 highly ranked sociology journals over a 10-year period. Peer interactive communication is discussed; correlation between frequency of acknowledgment and frequency of citation is examined; and incorporating acknowledgment data into the academic audit process is considered.…

Peer reviewedFisicaro, Sebastiano A.; Lance, Charles E. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1990
Three conceptual definitions of halo error are reviewed in the context of causal models of halo error. A corrected correlational measurement of halo error is derived, and the traditional and corrected measures are compared empirically for a 1986 study of 52 undergraduate students' ratings of a lecturer's performance. (SLD)
Descriptors: Causal Models, Correlation, Equations (Mathematics), Higher Education
Peer reviewedStahle, Debra L. – Reading Psychology, 1991
Studies second, fourth, and sixth grade students to answer four questions to determine whether comprehension of anaphora is a strong structural factor in children's personal composition as it is in reading comprehension. Concludes that students' reading and writing are correlated in the frequency and use of singular and plural pronouns. (MG)
