Peer reviewedSpenner, Kenneth I. – Sociology of Work and Occupations, 1981
Analysis of correlations in role relationships involving parent occupation and child's career choice and occupational aspiration were made to determine which characteristics of occupations play a part in intergenerational role transmission. Requirements and rewards were found to be the salient features. (Author/SK)

Peer reviewedEysenck, Sybil; Zuckerman, Marvin – British Journal of Psychology, 1978
The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and the Sensation-Seeking Scale were administered to 219 American undergraduates and 879 English twins. Sensation-seeking was positively correlated to EPQ-measured traits of extraversion and psychoticism. There was no relationship between sensation-seeking and the trait dimension of neuroticism.…

Peer reviewedJensen, Arthur R.; Munro, Ella – Intelligence, 1979
Information processing was measured in terms of reaction time and movement time to stimulus displays which differed in amount of information transmitted. Only reaction time increased as a linear function of number of bits in the stimulus display. Both show individual differences which significantly correlated with intelligence. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Cognitive Ability, Cognitive Processes, Correlation, Females
Peer reviewedCole, R. E.; And Others – Intelligence, 1979
Members of 118 families were administered the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale; a cognitive test battery; and tests of visual, auditory, and figure memory. Factor analysis of memory scores resulted in four-factor solution. Significant spouse correlations and significant midparent-midchild regressions were found for some of the memory measures.…
Descriptors: Cognitive Ability, Cognitive Tests, Correlation, Factor Structure
Peer reviewedBiggs, J. B. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1978
Studies of Australian and Canadian high school students point to at least a three-dimensional model of the study process domain, incorporating a complex of values, motives, and strategies. This complex mediates between personological and institutional variables on the one hand and academic performance on the other. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Correlation, High Schools, Intellectual Disciplines
Coleman, Edmund B. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1979
Presents two experiments which demonstrate that language-generalization tests should tend to decrease Type 2 errors. (AM)
Descriptors: Correlation, Error Patterns, Evaluation Methods, Experimental Psychology
Peer reviewedJakobsen, Reidar; Rise, Jostein; Aas, Henrik; Anderssen, Norman – Journal of Adolescence, 1997
Focuses on whether early onset of noncoital sexual interactions (EONSI) is best understood in the same paradigm as adolescent problem behavior. A longitudinal study (N=927) revealed that EONSI was related to problem behavior; the higher ordered the noncoital sexual interaction was, the more strongly it correlated with measure of problem behavior.…

Peer reviewedRoberts, Robert E.; Chen, Y. Richard; Roberts, Catherine R. – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1997
Analyzed middle school students (N=5,423) for ethnic differences in suicidal ideation, suicidal thoughts during the past two weeks, suicide plans, and suicide attempts. Results indicate that ideation was higher among females, older youths, and lower status youths. A similar pattern, except for gender, held for recent suicidal plans and attempts.…

Peer reviewedLof, Gregory L. – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1996
This study examined stimulability in 30 children (ages 3 to 5) with articulation impairments. Factors found to relate to stimulability were articulation visibility, the child's age, the family's socioeconomic status, and the child's overall imitative ability. Perception, severity, otitis media history, language abilities, consistency of…
Descriptors: Age, Articulation (Speech), Articulation Impairments, Child Development
Peer reviewedHaines, Mary E.; And Others – Journal of College Student Development, 1996
Assessed college students on measures of depression, concentration, and academic performance. Depression was negatively related to academic performance, although the relationship between depression and cognitive functioning was not detected on a brief measure of concentration. Suggests that isolated testing sessions may mask the detrimental…
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Cognitive Measurement, Cognitive Processes, Cognitive Tests
Peer reviewedYaghi, Hussein M.; Ghaith, Ghazi M. – Computers in the Schools, 2002
Discussion of the role of teachers' confidence in using computers in the successful implementation of information technology in education focuses on a study that investigated common factors that could be used as indicators of computing confidence among a group of teachers who work in schools that use computers in their educational programs in…

Demps, Deborah L.; Onwuegbuzie, Anthony J. – Research in the Schools, 2001
Studied whether eighth-grade reading scores on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills predict success on the five subtests of the Georgia High School Graduation Test. Findings for 102 high school seniors show that reading scores are statistically significantly related to all five subtests, with correlations ranging from 0.69 to 0.86. (SLD)

Peer reviewedGreenan, James P.; Winters, Michael R. – Career Development for Exceptional Individuals, 1989
The study examined the relationship between student and teacher ratings of the interpersonal relations skills of 165 special needs students enrolled in mainstreamed secondary level vocational programs. The correlations between the student self-ratings and teacher ratings suggest there is little agreement about students' actual skill levels. (DB)
Descriptors: Correlation, Interpersonal Competence, Mainstreaming, Mild Disabilities
