Hasselbring, Ted S. – International Review of Education, 1986
Reviews evaluation studies, box-score reviews, and meta-analyses on effectiveness of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) conducted from the 1960s through 1980s, using student achievement as a dependent measure. Conclusions are drawn as to CAI's effectiveness with regard to social and academic achievement and a cost analysis of CAI is provided. (29…

Becker, Gilbert – Journal of Experimental Education, 1986
This article discusses the circumstances under which unequal sample size in the two-group study can arise and result in an attenuated point-biserial correlation. Formulas are provided for correcting the coefficient either directly or through the mediation of relevant statistics found in studies where the coefficient itself is not reported.…

Thomas, Hoben – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1986
This paper is concerned with the construction of effect size standard errors in situations where the effect sizes are independent but the data have likely been sampled from non-normal distributions, and possibly for different studies, from different families of non-normal distributions. Asymptotic distribution-free estimators are provided for two…

Jensen, Arthur R.; Vernon, Philip A. – Intelligence, 1986
Longstreth's critique of Jensen's research on the relationship of IQ to individual differences in visual reaction time (RT), measured in the Hick paradigm, is said to have numerous errors of fact and interpretation, some trivial and some of theoretical importance. (Author/LMO)

Scheerens, Jaap – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1985
In order to better understand the influence of the organizational setting on evaluation, this conceptual framework was developed and tried out in a meta evaluation of innovatory educational programs in Holland. Four components are explained--contigency factors, organization structure, policy-making, and evaluation research--and a checklist is…

Raudenbush, Stephen W. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1984
Meta analysis was used on 18 studies of elementary students that tested the effects of teacher expectation on pupil IQ. Data supported the view that the better teachers know their pupils at the time of expectancy induction, the smaller the treatment effect. Additional findings and implications for further research are discussed. (BS)

McCallum, L. W. – Research in Higher Education, 1984
A meta-analysis of studies examining the criterion validity of student course evaluation data is discussed. Results indicate that the overall size of effect is not only highly significant, but also very meaningful when analyzed in relation to enhancing the likelihood of making more accurate tenure decisions. (Author/MLW)

Gersten, Russell – Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, 1984
Conclusion about site-specific determinants of educational outcomes of the controversial longitudinal evaluation of the Follow Through programs (1976) are challenged again by reexamining the Direct Instruction model data. Reanalysis confirms earlier critiques and supports more recent research funding on the relationship between types of…

Bricker, Diane – Journal of Children in Contemporary Society, 1984
Presents an overview of research literature on the effectiveness of early intervention programs for handicapped and medically at-risk infants. Describes problems of intervention research and elements common to most programs. Reports that although analysis uncovered flaws, reviewers uniformly encourage further efforts to devise effective…

Fisher, R. Michael – Online Submission, 2003
The purpose of this study was to identify the initial terms and means of creating and assessing the quality of what the author calls "fear education" (analogous to sex education or health education). Edmonson, Stacey L.; Thompson, David P. – 2000
This paper presents a meta analysis of the literature on special education teacher burnout. Discussion of a theoretical framework reviews theoretical models of burnout, especially Maslach's model, and stages and constructs of burnout. The meta analysis of 46 studies of special educator burnout with sufficient data for further quantitative analysis…

Lou, Yiping; And Others – Review of Educational Research, 1996
The effects of within-class grouping on student achievement and other outcomes were quantitatively integrated using one set of 145 effect sizes exploring grouping versus no grouping and a set of 20 effect sizes related to homogeneous versus heterogeneous ability grouping. Overall, results favored homogeneous grouping. (SLD)

Butzlaff, Ron – Journal of Aesthetic Education, 2000
Presents two meta-analyses of empirical literature focusing on the relationship between music instruction and reading performance, using reading test scores or general tests of verbal aptitude. States that the meta-analysis of correlational studies reflected music students have higher scores on standardized reading tests; while experimental…
