McCartt, Anne – College and Research Libraries, 1983
Using Social Judgment Analysis, tenure policies were derived for three academic librarians. These policies show wide discrepancies in the way the librarians evaluated hypothetical candidates for tenure. A candidate rating sheet is presented to show how the derived policies can be used to rate candidates more consistently (17 references). (EJS)

Dempster, Frank N.; Cooney, John B. – Intelligence, 1982
Individual differences in digit span, susceptibility to proactive interference, and various aptitude/achievement test scores were investigated in two experiments with college students. Results indicated that digit span was strongly correlated with aptitude/achievement scores, but did not indicate that susceptibility to proactive interference…

Adorni, G.; And Others – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1981
Evaluates an axiomatic approach to subject matter structuring in an undergraduate computer course in Italy. A comparison of structured and non-structured courses shows that the structured approach improves the learning process. (Author/JJD)

Thompson, Kenneth R.; Keon, Thomas L. – Simulation and Games, 1982
A study using a classroom simulation designed to demonstrate the effects of a certain/uncertain environment on the decision-making strategies of managers determined that such a simulation can be controlled to produce varied environments, and can be used, with some caveats, to replicate actual fieldwork. Nine references are listed. (EJS)

Carlson, Jerry S.; Jensen, C. Mark – Intelligence, 1982
Reaction time and movement time were negatively and moderately-to-strongly correlated with Ravens matrices performance and with reading comprehension and performance on the California Test of Basic Skills for 20 ninth-grade girls. Weaker relationships were found for mathematics and English grades, although the direction was consistently negative.…

Valencia, Richard R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA) appears to be an effective predictor of school achievement for 31 English-speaking second-grade Mexican-American children. High Pearson product-moment correlations were obtained between MSCA and the Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills. (Author/PN)

Jensen, Arthur R. – Intelligence, 1981
The Ramey and Haskins intervention experiment is examined. Narrow transfer of training from cognitive intervention techniques to IQ test performance in early childhood, rather than enhancement of the g factor itself, is hypothesized as a cause of the typical fadeout of early IQ gains in later childhood. Reynolds, Cecil R.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1981
Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) and McCarthy Scales subtests were ranked according to relative reliance on left-cerebral-hemisphere function. Results suggest that black-white IQ discrepancies may be partially explained by differences in hemisphericity. (Author/RD)

Marsh, Herbert W. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1982
Results of this study demonstrate student-instructor agreement on evaluations of teaching effectiveness, support the validity of student ratings for both graduate and undergraduate courses, and emphasize the importance of using multifactor rating scales that are derived through the application of factor analysis. Jensen, Arthur R.; And Others – Intelligence, 1981
Measurements derived from reaction time, movement time, and an index of neural adaptability derived from averaged evoked potentials are significantly related to each other as well as to g factor scores extracted from a battery of 15 psychometric tests in a sample of 54 severely retarded adults. (Author/RD)

Leung, Jupian J.; Sand, Margaret C. – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1981
Determined if self-esteem is related to emotional maturity. Scores from 200 male and female college students on Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Inventory and on the Washburne Social-Adjustment Inventory were correlated. Dumbrower, Jule; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
This study attempts to obtain evidence of the construct validity of pupil ability tests hypothesized to represent orientation to right, left, or integrated hemispheric function, and of teacher observation subscales intended to reveal behaviors in school setting that were hypothesized to portray preference for right or left brain function. Humphreys, Lloyd G.; Parsons, Charles K. – Intelligence, 1979
A reanalysis of Stephens' intercorrelations of Wechsler subtests, achievement tests, and Piagetian tasks was conducted. (EJ 055 112) Piagetian tasks contributed almost equally to the definition of the general factor in intelligence along with the Wechsler subtests and the achievement tests. Communality outweighed differences between intelligence…
