This study investigates those features of adult-child verbal interaction which are associated with high verbal ability. These aspects include: (1) Who initiates adult-child dialogues? (2) How long are they? and, (3) What are the parent's attitudes toward school achievement? (JM)

Considered were the behaviors relevant to friendship and how best to teach them while at the same time providing positive experiences for clients. The results of this study appear to support the feasibility of using a programmed procedure for learning interpersonal skills. Subjective reactions by counselors and students were favorable. Discusses counselor trainee anxiety and concludes that this anxiety has a cognitive or a self-talk component which increases the counselor's focus on self-evaluative thinking. Counselor predicate use similarity in a social psychological context was considered in a study involving 180 college students. Results failed to support the hypothesis that clients perceive counselors with similar predicate preferences as more attractive or that predicate similarity in natural language is too subtle to detect.
