White, Richard T.; Clark, R. Malcolm – Psychometrika, 1973
A test which allows for errors of measurement is derived for the hypothesis that all the members of a population who possess a certain skill are a sub-set of the members who possess another skill. (Author)

Hays, Ron; Stacy, Alan – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Critiqued and reanalyzed a recent study of the validity of five Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) alcoholism scales. The original study concluded that these scales were invalid in terms of classifying patients in regard to alcoholic status. Reanalysis provides evidence for the validity of four of the five scales. (Author/JAC)

Snyder, Douglas K.; Regts, John M. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Describes two broad-band factor scales of marital distress constructed to supplement existing profile scales of the Marital Satisfaction Inventory. The two new scales, labeled Disaffection and Disharmony, both discriminated between normative and clinical samples. Distinct distributions support the concept of two separate, interactive components of…

Wall, W. D. – Educational Review, 1979
This paper is as much an attempt to catch some of the flavor of the man Peel as it is an exegesis of his work. It traces his special interests and contributions, especially his experimental extensions of Piaget in the realm of adolescent psychology. (Author/SJL)

Manschreck, Theo C.; And Others – Language and Speech, 1980
Examines the relationship between relevant clinical symptoms and the predictability of language utterances in schizophrenia. Specifically, investigates the sensitivity of the Cloze procedure to various modes of language response, attempting to detect differences between language samples written by schizophrenics and controls. Analyzes experimental…

Whitely, Susan E. – Psychometrika, 1980
A model is proposed for analyzing ability tests which utilizes a cognitive approach to understanding test items and latent trait analysis for quantifying subjects responses to test items. The model adopts a multicomponent perspective on the processes involved in answering test items. (JKS)

Muthen, Bengt – Psychometrika, 1978
A new method--similar to Christoffersson's--for the factor analysis of dichotomous variables uses information from the first and second order proportions to fit a multiple factor model. The estimation is considerably simplified. Items from Rotter's locus of control inventory are included. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Item Analysis, Personality Measures
Thauberger, Patrick C.; And Others – Essence: Issues in the Study of Ageing, Dying, and Death, 1979
Reports structural properties of the Thauberger Avoidance of the Ontological Confrontation of Death Scale with respect to social desirability as well as results of an analysis focusing on the hypothesized relationship of this construct to neuroticism. (Author)

Colligan, Robert C.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
Raw scores for the clinical scales of MMPI can be changed to T scores by linear transformation. If the underlying distributions of raw scores are not distributed normally, one cannot assume the traditional point of significance. Suggests that clinicians consider more conservative interpretation for some scales. (Author)

Fibel, Bobbi; Hale, W. Daniel – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1978
The Generalized Expectancy for Success Scale was assessed for its psychometric properties. Results indicate that GESS has acceptable test-retest reliability, high internal consistency, and minimal relationship with social desirability. Predicted relationships between high generalized expectancy for success, depressive symptomatology, and…

Lachar, David; Alexander, Richard S. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1978
Correlates of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Wiggins content scales were identified in male clients who received mental health evaluations at a military medical facility. Holland, Paul W. – Psychometrika, 1981
Deciding whether sets of test data are consistent with any of a large class of item response models is considered. The assumption of local independence is weakened to a new condition, local nonnegative dependence (LND). Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for a LND item response model. (Author/JKS)
