Third-grade students were exposed to a literature passage, The Red Carpet, via one of three modes of presentation. The teacher read aloud from a book, showed a filmstrip, or showed a film. A listening retention test was administered, and results showed that the differences were statistically insignificant. (Author/GDC)

Studied two pediatric surgery populations (N=66) to determine differences in retention of preparatory information. Results showed that children exposed to a hospital-relevant film retained more information than those children not prepared regardless of age, IQ, previous experience, sex, and time of film preparation. Describes a study which used the heart rate of subjects as the measure of physiological arousal to assess the effect of forewarning on emotional reactions and physiological responses to a frightening television film. Results indicate that although forewarning did not significantly affect anxiety, it did promote more intense fright and upset. (MBR)
