Sireci, Stephen G.; Harter, James; Yang, Yongwei; Bhola, Dennison – International Journal of Testing, 2003
Evaluated the structural equivalence and differential item functioning of an employee attitude survey from a large international corporation across three languages, eight cultures, and two mediums of administration. Results for 40,595 employees show the structure of survey data was consistent and items functioned similarly across all groups. (SLD)

Fulcher, Glenn – Language Testing, 2003
Describes a three-phase process model for interface design, drawing on practices developed in the software industry and adapting them for computer-based languages tests. Describes good practice in initial design, emphasizes the importance of usability testing, and argues that only through following a principled approach to interface design can the…

Barak, Azy; Cohen, Liora – Journal of Career Assessment, 2002
High school students took the Self Directed Search twice: (1) counselor-scored paper and online (n=31); (2) self-scored paper and online (n=42); (3) online at school twice (n=46); and (4) online at home (n=31). Content validity and reliability of the online version were supported, and users were more satisfied. Online resulted in higher profiles.…

Brookings, Jeffrey B. – Intelligence, 1990
Latent dimensions underlying individual differences in performance of information-processing tasks and dual task combinations, and the existence of a time-sharing (TS) ability were studied in 81 male college students. Supportive evidence for a general TS ability was not found. An identified TS factor specific to task combinations is discussed.…

Searls, Donald T.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1990
Indices that detail aspects of student test responses include overall aberrancy; tendencies to miss relatively easy items; tendencies to correctly answer more difficult items; and a combination that indicates how the latter tendencies balance each other. Mathematics test results for 368 college students illustrate the indices. (SLD)

Thissen, David; And Others – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1989
An approach to scoring reading comprehension based on the concept of the testlet is described, using models developed for items in multiple categories. The model is illustrated using data from 3,866 examinees. Application of testlet scoring to multiple category models developed for individual items is discussed. (SLD)

Faust, David; Ziskin, Jay – Computers in Human Behavior, 1989
Discussion of computer-assisted psychological evaluation focuses on its use as legal evidence. Topics discussed include legal criteria for expertise; clinical psychology and standards for expertise; factors relating to reliability and validity, including the proper use of data; computerized test administration; computer-based test interpretation;…

Bordieri, James E.; Musgrave, Jack – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1989
Explored rehabilitation clients' (N=75) perceptions of Microcomputer Evaluation and Screening Assessment (MESA). Results showed clients experienced greater enjoyment, but more difficulty, learning how to complete computer exercises than hardware exercises but viewed computer exercises instructions as easier to understand. Observed differences in…

Andrich, David – Psychometrika, 1995
This book discusses adapting pencil-and-paper tests to computerized testing. Mention is made of models for graded responses to items and of possibilities beyond pencil-and-paper-tests, but the book is essentially about dichotomously scored test items. Contrasts between item response theory and classical test theory are described. (SLD)

Litman, Robert E. – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1995
The author anticipates that sophisticated interactive computer programs will be effective in improving screening and case finding of the suicidal and that they will become invaluable in improving training for primary care providers and outpatient mental health workers. Additionally, improved communication networks will help maintain continuity of…

Dodd, Barbara G.; Koch, William R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
Simulated data were used to investigate the impact of characteristics of threshold values (number, symmetry, and distance between adjacent threshold values) and delta values on the distribution of item information in the successive intervals Rasch model. Implications for computerized adaptive attitude measurement are discussed. (SLD)

Vispoel, Walter P.; Coffman, Don D. – Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, 1992
Reports the findings of a study of university marching band members' tonal memory skills and their preferences between adaptive and paper-and-pencil testing. Concludes that adaptive testing yielded greater reliability and validity scores. Indicates that students preferred adaptive tests over paper-and-pencil music tests. (SG)

Speitel, Thomas W. – Science Teacher, 1992
Describes applications of bar coding technology that will help teachers to organize and energize their classrooms. Explains how bar codes--the black-and-white lines used for identification--are read and produced. Educational applications include their use in testing, equipment inventory, specimen identification, time keeping in experiments,…

Lonsbury-Martin, Brenda L.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
This tutorial paper examines the potential of otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) in diagnostic audiology. It discusses classification of OAEs, basic properties of various types of OAEs, and clinical applications. It concludes that both transiently evoked and distortion product OAEs have beneficial clinical application resulting from their objectivity,…

Macready, George B.; Dayton, C. Mitchell – Psychometrika, 1992
An adaptive testing algorithm is presented based on an alternative modeling framework, and its effectiveness is investigated in a simulation based on real data. The algorithm uses a latent class modeling framework in which assessed latent attributes are assumed to be categorical variables. (SLD)
