Wlodyga, Linda J. – ProQuest LLC, 2010
In an attempt to prepare new graduate nurses to meet the demands of health care delivery systems, the use of computer-based clinical information systems that combine hands-on experience with computer based information systems was explored. Since the introduction of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) nearly two decades ago, the demand for nurses to…

Kirriemuir, John – Educational Research, 2010
Background: Numerous surveys, articles, ephemera and online information sources indicate that "Second Life" has been the predominant virtual world, for educational purposes, in UK universities for the latter half of the 2000s. However, the infrastructure required to operate "Second Life" presents a number of technical concerns…

Mahon, Jennifer; Bryant, Bobby; Brown, Ben; Kim, Miran – Educational Media International, 2010
The following article discusses an educational simulation created within Second Life (SL) in order to assist pre-service teachers (PSTs) in gaining more experience managing student behavior. The article discusses the development, implementation, and assessment of the simulation as well as student data on the feasibility of the approach in…

Martin, Clarence H. – Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, 2007
This teaching brief presents a Microsoft® Excel simulation designed to complement and expand upon the well-known matchstick/die game introduced by Goldratt in "The Goal." This simulation performs 100 replications of a 40-period processing run for low, medium, and high levels of process variation and displays the comparative results…

Yuzer, T. Volkan – Online Submission, 2007
The Internet usage has been increasing among persons in the worldwide. This situation highlights that the number of potential distance learners has been increasing in the Internet society. Besides, the terms and concepts of the Internet environments become to be spread out in this society like virtual reality. It is also possible to explain the…

Newman, Ehren L.; Caplan, Jeremy B.; Kirschen, Matthew P.; Korolev, Igor O.; Sekuler, Robert; Kahana, Michael J. – Cognition, 2007
By having subjects drive a virtual taxicab through a computer-rendered town, we examined how landmark and layout information interact during spatial navigation. Subject-drivers searched for passengers, and then attempted to take the most efficient route to the requested destinations (one of several target stores). Experiment 1 demonstrated that…

Archibald, J. K.; Fife, W. S. – Computer Science Education, 2007
Embedded systems are increasingly pervasive, and the creation of reliable controlling software offers unique challenges. Embedded software must interact directly with hardware, it must respond to events in a time-critical fashion, and it typically employs concurrency to meet response time requirements. This paper describes an innovative course…

Lee, Sik-Yum; Song, Xin-Yuan; Tang, Nian-Sheng – Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2007
The analysis of interaction among latent variables has received much attention. This article introduces a Bayesian approach to analyze a general structural equation model that accommodates the general nonlinear terms of latent variables and covariates. This approach produces a Bayesian estimate that has the same statistical optimal properties as a…

Chittaro, Luca; Ranon, Roberto – Computers and Education, 2007
Web3D open standards allow the delivery of interactive 3D virtual learning environments through the Internet, reaching potentially large numbers of learners worldwide, at any time. This paper introduces the educational use of virtual reality based on Web3D technologies. After briefly presenting the main Web3D technologies, we summarize the…

Klockars, Alan J.; Hancock, Gregory R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
Differences between per experiment (PE) and experimentwise (EW) error rates were studied through simulation for several multiple-comparison procedures for both pairwise comparisons and planned contrasts. Results suggest ways to control PE rates through new multiple-comparison procedures that maximize experimental power while controlling Type I…

Flexser, Arthur J.; Tulving, Endel – Psychological Review, 1993
This article shows that D. L. Hintzman's criticism of the Tulving-Wiseman function is based on an unjustified assumption that is implicit in his simulation procedure, an assumption that is at variance with empirical facts. A more appropriate hypothesis makes the discrepancy between average maximum and algebraic maximum disappear. (SLD)

Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1998
Uses computer simulation to study the effects on parametric and nonparametric statistical tests when assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance are violated. Results reveal that nonparametric methods are not always acceptable substitutes for parametric methods in research studies when parametric assumptions are not satisfied. (SLD)

Groessler, Andreas; Maier, Frank H.; Milling, Peter M. – Simulation & Gaming, 2000
Discussion of computer-based simulations for business focuses on adding transparency through system dynamics techniques. Describes an experiment that evaluated the relevance and the effects of providing structural transparency to users of business simulators and suggests further research. (Contains 51 references.) Olejnik, Stephen; Mills, Jamie; Keselman, Harvey – Journal of Experimental Education, 2000
Evaluated the use of Mallow's C(p) and Wherry's adjusted R squared (R. Wherry, 1931) statistics to select a final model from a pool of model solutions using computer generated data. Neither statistic identified the underlying regression model any better than, and usually less well than, the stepwise selection method, which itself was poor for…

Wolfe, Joseph; Luethge, Denise J. – Journal of Education for Business, 2003
Some game users have contended that students can be successful in games even if they "know little" about the rules and the underlying business theories driving them. Thus, if teams are uninvolved, it is possible that successful game play may not impart the learning typically found in experiential exercises nor that designed into games by their…
