Croft, Anthony; Ward, Joe – British Journal of Educational Technology, 2001
Describes strategies used to teach mathematics to engineering students at Loughborough University (United Kingdom). Explains a combination of traditional instruction with computer assisted learning in an open learning environment that motivates students by providing a more flexible approach to be responsive to individual needs. Lloyd, D.; And Others – Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, 1996
In an engineering technology course at Coventry University (England), the utility of computer-assisted tests was compared with that of traditional paper-based tests. It was found that the computer-based technique was acceptable to students, produced valid results, and demonstrated potential for saving staff time. (Author/MSE)

Camp, Tracy – Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering, 1998
When a Department of Computer Science (CS) recently formed stronger ties with the College of Engineering and weaker ties with the College of Arts and Science, CS faculty began encouraging CS majors to switch to the former college from the latter. Analyzes the decline of females in the CS program as a result. (Author/PVD)

Townend, M. Stewart – Teaching in Higher Education, 2001
Describes an approach to engineering mathematics instruction that uses case studies, not as illustrations of applications after a mathematical topic has been discussed, but in a fully integrated, central role as vehicles for whole group discussion from which students discover the necessary mathematics, which is subsequently taught. Discusses…

Ercegovac, Zorana – Proceedings of the ASIST Annual Meeting, 2001
To assist engineering students to "view" and access online engineering information sources in a layered manner, Engineering Information Sources and Access (EISA) was developed. Discussed are design features of EISA's front-end, ATEIS. The level of interoperability was compared across four controlled vocabularies on selected terms for targeted user…

Evans, Terry D. – Australian and New Zealand Journal of Vocational Education Research, 2001
Two approaches to flexible learning were tried in an Australian college of technical and further education: in engineering, the industry enterprise approach focused on employers as clients; in office administration, the individual customization approach viewed the student as client. Each model fit different types of training needs and contexts.…

Verner, Igor M.; Ahlgren, David J. – Journal on Educational Resources in Computing, 2004
By designing, building, and operating autonomous robots students learn key engineering subjects and develop systems-thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Such events as the Trinity College Fire-Fighting Home Robot Contest (TCFFHRC) offer rich opportunities for students to apply their skills by requiring design, and implementation of…
