Peer reviewedBirnbaum, Dee; Somers, Mark John – Work and Occupations: An International Sociological Journal, 1989
A task-based and a values-based model used to measure nurses' occupational image were examined. Assessment of the discriminant validity of the values-based model and the generalizability of the task-based model tended to support the latter. (Author/JOW)
Descriptors: Measures (Individuals), Nursing, Public Opinion, Role Perception
Peer reviewedJuliano, Jane M.; And Others – Journal of School Psychology, 1988
Compared Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) tests and retest scores for 322 learning disabled children over three years for factor structure and structure stability. Results suggest that WISC-R factor structure was stable over three years. Coefficients of congruence indicated factorial similarity between groups of Black and…

Peer reviewedPlunkett, James W.; And Others – Early Childhood Research Quarterly, 1989
Investigated temperament ratings among three groups of preterm infants, differing by degree of risk status, and a full-term group. Findings concerning internal consistencies demonstrated that preterm parents found the Rothbart Infant Behavior Questionnaire temperament dimensions to be coherent constructs, regardless of initial severity and…

Peer reviewedBargmann, Rolf – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1989
Use of internal correlation for statistical analysis--as proposed by G. W. Joe and J. L. Mendoza (1989)--is discussed. Use of the bootstrap technique to deal with the distributional problem is questioned. Joe and Mendoza attempt the interpretation of the two linear composites that produce the largest internal correlation. (TJH)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Generalization, Multivariate Analysis
Peer reviewedSchuenemeyer, John H. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1989
The use of internal correlation for statistical analysis, as proposed by G. W. Joe and J. L. Mendoza (1989), is discussed. The suggestion of using bootstrapping is received well. Applications to collinearity are suggested. (TJH)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Generalization, Multivariate Analysis
Peer reviewedMacCann, Robert G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1989
Levine's equations for random groups and unequally reliable tests can be used to equate two tests through performance on an anchor test. Levine's assumption of a parallelism requirement is not necessary; it is sufficient to assume only that the tests are congeneric, an assumption implicit in linear test equating. (SLD)
Descriptors: Equated Scores, Equations (Mathematics), Latent Trait Theory, Test Reliability
Peer reviewedCarey, John C.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1988
Attempted to verify multidimensional nature and item composition of Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) subscales through factor analysis. IRI responses from 365 female clinical dieticians and dietetic interns supported contention that IRI subscales measure four discernibly different empathy dimensions. (NB)
Descriptors: Adults, Empathy, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure
Simpson, Robert G.; Arnett, Karen – Diagnostique, 1987
The behavior of 95 children (grades three through six) was rated by two groups of teachers using the Revised Behavior Problem Checklist. Multivariate analysis of variance revealed no significant differences between the mean ratings of the two groups. Normative data for males and females are presented. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Behavior Problems, Behavior Rating Scales, Check Lists, Elementary Education
Peer reviewedGonzalez, Gerardo M.; And Others – Computers in Human Behavior, 1995
Describes a pilot study that tested a Macintosh computerized speech version and a paper-and-pencil version of the Center for Epidemiological Studies--Depression scale for screening adult depression symptoms. Equivalence, reliability, and participant preferences are examined, and future research is suggested. (40 references) (LRW)
Descriptors: Adults, Comparative Analysis, Depression (Psychology), Pilot Projects
Peer reviewedBurrell, Brenda; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
The measurement characteristics of the Perceived Adequacy of Resources Scale, a measure of family functioning, were investigated. The reliability and validity of total and subtest scores were studied with 113 mothers. Results were generally favorable regarding the integrity of scores from the measure. (SLD)
Descriptors: Family Characteristics, Mothers, Psychometrics, Scores
Peer reviewedRobinson, Richard, Ed. – Reading Psychology, 1992
Discusses the progress in accurate measurement of reading, the major challenges for reading researchers in developing better measures in reading, and significant developments in the near future. (RS)
Descriptors: Interviews, Reading Achievement, Reading Research, Reading Tests
Peer reviewedMoberg, D. Paul; Hahn, Lori – Journal of Adolescent Chemical Dependency, 1991
Developed Adolescent Drug Involvement Scale (ADIS) to measure level of drug involvement, considered as continuum ranging from no use to severe dependency, in adolescents. Administered ADIS to 453 adolescents referred for treatment. Results indicated acceptable internal consistency and provide preliminary evidence of validity. Scores correlated…

Peer reviewedZumbo, Bruno D.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1992
An error in an essential equation within the article by Williams and Zimmerman is corrected, and the algebraic inequalities are translated into questions a researcher can ask about simple or residualized difference scores. Williams and Zimmerman acknowledge the error and note that main conclusions are not affected. (SLD)
Descriptors: Algebra, Comparative Analysis, Equations (Mathematics), Mathematical Models
Peer reviewedWagner, Edwin E.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1990
Maximized correlation as an internal reliability estimate for tests with few items was investigated. An actual sampling distribution of maximum correlation--"r" max--was empirically derived from 100 samples of 50 cases each from Rorschach test data and compared with those of alpha and an odd/even split, using 2,020 Rorschach protocols.…

Peer reviewedManley, Christopher M.; And Others – Adolescence, 1991
Administered Family-of-Origin Scale (FOS) to 88 high school students on 2 occasions, with 2-week interval between testings. Global FOS index and 10 subscale scores demonstrated high test-retest reliability. Internal consistency reliability was also high. Findings suggest that FOS for adolescents is psychometrically sound.
