Leveraging Audio Content in Education: A TIM-Based Evaluation of Educators' Podcast Integration Strategies
Educational Media International, v62 n2 p170-196 2025
This study investigates how educators incorporate existing podcasts into their instructional plans and leverage technology to support podcast-integrated teaching practices. The participants in this qualitative study consisted of 38 in-service educators enrolled in an educational technology course. The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) served as the theoretical framework for a qualitative content analysis of these plans, which examined the levels of technology integration across the five characteristics of meaningful learning. Findings reveal diverse approaches to podcast integration, with a notable trend towards lower levels of technology integration. While educators showed proficiency in designing active and constructive learning experiences, there was less emphasis on collaborative and authentic learning environments. This research underscores the need for more sophisticated technology integration strategies in podcast-based instruction. The study provides valuable insights for teacher educators and professional development programs to enhance educators' skills in leveraging podcasts and technology for effective instruction.
