Pettegrew, Loyd S.; Wolf, Glenda E. – American Educational Research Journal, 1982
A validation study in the development of empirical measures of teacher stress is presented. Role-related, task-based, and environmental stress measures demonstrated internal consistency and provided reliable and valid multivariate assessment of teacher stress. (PN)

Porche, Lisa M.; Banikiotes, Paul G. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1982
Black male and female adolescents (N=27) were presented racial and attitudinal information about a hypothetical male or female counselor and asked to express their perceptions of the counselor. Attitudinal rather than racial information regarding a counselor had a more crucial effect in determining perception of the counselor. (Author)

Kurpius, DeWayne J.; And Others – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1980
Results question the generally held contention that the impact of modeling is maximized by presentation of multiple models. Findings suggest caution in making the generalization that the potency of a single model is totally equivalent to that of multiple models. (Author)

Smith, Carolyn – Social Work Research, 1996
Investigates the conceptual and empirical links between early experiences of maltreatment and later teenage pregnancy in a representative sample of 249 teenage women (Rochester Youth Development Study). Data indicate significantly higher pregnancy rates among teenagers with a maltreatment history and seems more pronounced for those with a range of…

Dobson, Matthew; And Others – Evaluation Review, 1996
The effectiveness of a national counseling program for Australian Vietnam veterans was evaluated by comparing the symptom levels of 146 clients with those of 546 matched nonclient controls. Multivariate analyses show that the positive effects of the counseling are most apparent in areas of alcohol dependence and dyadic adjustment. (SLD)

Rodgers, Gregory B. – Evaluation Review, 1990
Application of multivariate qualitative response models, such as logit regression models, to analysis of risks of all-terrain vehicles is discussed. Data are from national exposure and injury surveys and records of fatalities of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Suggestions are made for further applications of the method. (SLD)

Ross, Steven M.; And Others – Educational Technology, Research and Development, 1989
Describes study of undergraduates that examined uses and effects of learner control of the context or theme of practice examples on a computer-based statistics lesson in combination with the number of examples examined. Student attitudes are discussed, and correlations between learner characteristics and task outcomes are examined. (38 references)…

Schuster, Beate; And Others – Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, 1989
Studies perceptions of causal attributions pertinent to success and failure in two social class groups from Belgium, West Germany, India, South Korea, and England. Found high agreement among the two social classes as well as among four of the nations, but Indians rated all causes as more external, variable, and uncontrollable. (FMW)

Baker, Dorothy I.; Bice, Thomas W. – Gerontologist, 1995
A retrospective cohort design is used to estimate the effect of urinary incontinence (UI) on the public costs of home care services to elderly individuals. Multivariate analyses controlling for other individual, household, and supply characteristics demonstrate that those with UI generate significantly greater public costs for home care services.…

Frick, Theodore W. – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1992
Discussion of expert systems and computerized adaptive tests describes two versions of EXSPRT, a new approach that combines uncertain inference in expert systems with sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) stopping rules. Results of two studies comparing EXSPRT to adaptive mastery testing based on item response theory and SPRT approaches are…

Tan, David L. – Research in Higher Education, 1992
A study used a multivariate approach to assessing college departmental excellence. Factor analysis identified three potentially useful factor clusters ("faculty research,""input," and "student") and seven indicators based on those clusters. Indicators combining faculty research and input and combining all three clusters were found to be the best…

Henry, Gary T.; And Others – Evaluation Review, 1992
A statistical technique is presented for developing performance standards based on benchmark groups. The benchmark groups are selected using a multivariate technique that relies on a squared Euclidean distance method. For each observation unit (a school district in the example), a unique comparison group is selected. (SLD)

Marion, Russ – Journal of School Leadership, 1992
Applies chaos theory to complex social organization, beginning with a mathematical definition of chaos. Shows how a nonlinear equation might be used to describe organization. The conclusion section identifies three approaches to analyzing chaos in social organization: metaphorical analysis, mathematical modeling, and data collection. (36…

Gardner, William – Psychometrika, 1990
This paper provides a method for analyzing data consisting of event sequences and covariate observations associated with Markov chains. The objective is to use the covariate data to explain differences between individuals in the transition probability matrices characterizing their sequential data. (TJH)

Mulaik, Stanley A. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1993
Issues the author has explored in his work on the philosophy of statistics are reviewed. Indeterminacy, the place of empiricism, questions of causation and causality, and explorations of language have preceded the study of objectivity. The relationship between objectivity and multivariate statistics is examined. (SLD)
