People who made voluntary, radical occupational changes in mid-career were interviewed and compared with people remaining in matched occupations. Obstacles to change were mostly financial. Personal beliefs about control one has over life and one's ability to succeed in new areas determine whether obstacles deter change. (Author/BEF)

Assesses characteristics of counselor trainees preparing to work with deaf persons. Entry level characteristics of males and females, normal hearing and hearing- impaired trainees, differed. Trainees completing the program were similar to those who did not. Normal hearing students seemed to adopt personality traits of their deaf peers. (Author)

In this study with 240 introductory psychology students, ten interpretable independent dimensions of satisfaction with life were extracted with six factors that loaded on the PIL and four that loaded on the SONG, supporting Crumbaugh's assertion that the SONG is a complementary scale to the PIL. Girls taking A-level mathematics were compared with girls taking A-level French on masculinity/femininity, parental identification, and attitudes toward their school subjects. Contrary to findings with older children, no sex differences occurred in scoring on the anxiety scale. Kindergarten children generally scored higher on the anxiety scale than did older children. Lie scale scores were comparable to those of other primary grade children. (Author)
