Lopez, Manual Mariano – Social Science Quarterly, 1981
Compares patterns of residential segregation among Mexican Americans, Blacks, and Anglos for 1960 and 1970 and finds that, in spite of a striking similarity in the overall pattern, there have been some important changes. Further, city characteristics found to be good predictors of segregation for 1960 fail to adequately account for the same types…

Shiflett, Samuel; Cohen, Stanley L. – Personnel Psychology, 1980
Soldiers responded to a desirability and instrumentality scale for 16 potential outcomes obtainable from outstanding performance. Scores were factor analysed and composites formed to reflect each dimension. The 11-item set was a better predictor than the 16-item set. (Author)

Dattore, Patrick J.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory scores yielded significant discriminations between cancer and noncancer groups. The group with cancer was significantly separated from the noncancer group on the basis of lower scores on Byrne's Repression-Sensitization scale (greater repression) and on the Depression scale of the MMPI (less…

Piechowski, Mary; Millimet, C. Raymond – Journal of Research in Personality, 1980
For externals, any variability in the reinforcing behavior of the "teacher" resulted in greater perceived freedom. For internals, perceived freedom was a negative linear function of the amount of reinforcement. Greater freedom was attributed to a person whose behavior was perceived as congruent with the person's inner disposition.…

Botwinick, Jack; Storandt, Martha – Journal of Gerontology, 1980
Recall and recognition were tested in adults from each of six age decades. Memory test items occurred long ago. The difference between recall and recognition memory for this type of information was similar for all age groups. Retrieval deficits as a function of age were not observed. (Author/BEF)

Motto, Jerome A. – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1980
A current focus in evaluating suicide risk is the "clinical model" approach, which determines those factors associated with high risk for suicide. The impact of a variety of individual, residential, and community variables on adaptive functioning of 369 retarded persons (18 to 73 years old) was examined using a multiple regression analysis. Individual characteristics (especially IQ) accounted for 21 percent of the variance, while environmental variables, primarily those related to…
