Peer reviewedJanzen, Henry L.; Hallworth, Herbert J. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1973
The present study is an attempt to explore the usefulness of demographic predictors of writing ability. Specifically, it is concerned with delineating the elements involved in writing and to ascertain the effects of achievement, language background, age, sex, social class, etc., on linguistic ability. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: College Students, Demography, Factor Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis
Peer reviewedSrinivasan, V.; Weinstein, Alan G. – Journal of Applied Psychology, 1973
Two admissions models are developed to predict future academic performance of graduate management students. The corrected model, using data obtained from the entire applicant group instead of just those admitted, demonstrated higher predictive ability. (Author/KM)

Peer reviewedHolly, Keith A.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
The Structure-of-Intellect Tests are shown to represent promising alternatives to the traditional commercial standardized tests now widely used in predicting success in modern algebra. (Author/NE)
Descriptors: Algebra, Measurement Techniques, Multiple Regression Analysis, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedRubin, Kenneth H. – Child Development, 1973
Purpose of this study was to examine the nature of correlations among tasks purporting to measure communicative, cognitive, role-taking, and spatial egocentrism in childhood. (Author/CB)

Peer reviewedCecil, Earl A.; And Others – Personnel Psychology, 1973
The present study represents an attempt to identify the qualities perceived to be important for male and female applicants for the same job. (Author)

Peer reviewedCoie, John D.; Dorval, Bruce – Developmental Psychology, 1973
Analytic intelligence was a good predictor of communication scores for boys but not for girls. Verbal ability was no better a predictor for girls than boys. The correlational evidence indicates that conventional intelligence tests predict social perspective taking as well as Piaget's measure of spatial perspective-taking ability. (Authors)
Descriptors: Elementary School Students, Intelligence, Interpersonal Competence, Predictor Variables
Peer reviewedMarshall, Jon C.; Christensen, Diana L. – Education, 1973
Over a one-semester-period, the relative level of marking seems to have little impact on motivation or achievement for most students. It may be that the internalized perceptions of achievement level are more significant determinors of student behavior than teacher assigned marks. (Authors)

Peer reviewedTucker, Ledyard R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
The inter-battery factor analysis model for predictive systems appears to offer a useful formalization of these systems and provides some guides for the development of the system. (Author)

Peer reviewedWilliams, Jean H. – Journal of Educational Research, 1973
This investigation of 133 first grade Ss (25 percent Hispano--75 percent Anglo and 50 percent male), found no significant correlations between objective scores of young children's self-concept and their first or second grade reading achievement. (Author)
